Anyone have a barking OES?

WHYYYYYYY? Chiquita is driving us CRAZY with all her barking. It's recently gotten way out of control. We have started taking her for run first thing in the morning for 30 minutes. Then she gets a 45 minute walk in the afternoon. But it's not making a dent in her barking.

When she's inside we scruff her and take her to a room and close the door. She stays in the room for three minutes after being quiet. This was working well until a week ago. She's quiet in the room and barking what feels like non-stop while out of it. And don't even get me started on the outside. OMG.... BARKING!!!!!! She's barking at everything that moves or shimmers, sometimes even barking while she's just sitting staring at nothing! She's healthy. Eating well. Playing nicely with her doggy friends.

ANY SUGGESTIONS? :D please! :D :D

Well... I'm a fan of metal bakeware or metal pot lids.
Also a new/empty quart paint can with several coins inside.

I drop the metal bakeware on vinyl tile floor
or shake the huge penny can and say "ENOUGH!".

Now we ask them, "Do you want the pan?".
Probably confuses Panda a little...
I feel your sore ear drums. Tiggy is a crazy barker when she's excited, which is often.

Whenever either of us come home, if someone knocks at the door, when I get her lead out, when Rastus runs (he's a dalmo, he runs EVERYWHERE), the reasons are too numerous.
It seems to me from her behaviour that she knows I dont want her to bark but she just cant help it, she's sooooo excited about life, so I dont be too hard on her. And I act like she's the most wonderful, amazing dog in the world whenever she stops.

She's also too smart. I started out shutting the door in her face when I came home and it worked for 2 days. Now she stops and then barks again when I open it. After spending ages outside in the cold one night I gave up now I just walk in and ignore her.

I tried giving her a favorite tugga toy that was reserved only for when she was barking. She cant hold it in her mouth and bark. That worked for maybe 4 days and then she would come and get it from me run away spit it out and start barking.

Just this week I tried tried squirting her with a bottle. It worked really well for 3 days, better than shutting the door or the tugga. I was so excited!! :yay: Last night I came home from work and she started running around and barking so I grabbed the squirt bottle. She started running around dodging me and barking at the squirt bottle. She's worked it out already.

I am going to try rotating between the tugga and the squirt to see if I can keep her guessing and I will add the coins in the can but last time I tried loud noise it just made her more silly.

If anyone else has ideas I'll be trying them too. :D

Good luck and please PM me if you have any successes. My eardrums will thank you. :D
Jaci I used one of your methods today and "CRIKEYS" Silence 8O

My problem was when the grooming table comes out, all 3 go mental with crazy barking as to who it is on the table today. Once one of them is up it stops. Also just getting the gear ready it's crazy around here with them all barking like crazy with the oooooh me me me.

Well two pot lids clanged together at the first bark as I was putting up the grooming table and complete "SILENCE" 8O from all 3 of them, one more bark and one more go with the clang of the lids together and not a peep out of them. 8O

Absolutely "AMAZING" using this technique from now on when needed, beats the hell out of me trying to yell "NO" when all 3 are barking like crazy. There not usually barkers, babs is a bit more vocal then the other two but it sure did stop her in her tracks YAY and the others did not join in the barkfest. :yay: Silence when getting everything ready was golden and still cant believe it worked, but it did WOO HOO >
Yeah a good pot clash or gravel in the coffee can has worked for barkers.

Now it is just Jack and I can bellow ENOUGH loud enough to have all 4 run for cover. Unfortunately he's a before dinner barker, "Hurry up, hurry up." I only have to point to the floor and he falls on his chest......and usually stops barking. Other times I've held his mouth shut with one had as I've scooped dog food with the other.

Try crashing pots or the coins in a can to startle him quiet. Then praise the quiet.
I barked back at mine last night - he jumped back, silent and with an look of utter amazement!! :o

Summer doesnt bark she just lets the yorkie do it. The yorkie barks when we go out I have tried a squirty bottle but she just looks at me as if to say that was refreshing! Keys used to work at one time keep them in your pocket and drop them on the floor right next to them, might not work with a big dog though!
Asterisk is an avid barker, too. Her's I attribute to her puppy energy. I can take her for a long walk or to the dog park and once she's taken a nap... she begins again. She always stomps her front feet when she barks.

Wendel will only bark if another dog is getting attention from his humans. Since the past few days I've been dogsitting our friends dog, Wendel is barking non-stop. At least with Wendel, once you pull him in for a hug, he stops.

I'd be happy to try any techniques everyone is offering with Asterisk, though!
Have you tried squirting a small amount of either lemon juice or lime juice into their mouths when they are barking? I had one that used to quit barking as soon as she saw the little lemon container! Eventually she toned done what we called her "nuisance" barking. Never quit entirely & she was the best dog out there to alert you of any changes but never the less very livable. Timing is critical. You have to squirt as they are barking. Not a lot, just a small squirt.
aww the lemon, yup that always works lol
I never had a barker before Toby. He barks out the window at anything that moves, and if its another dog, he howls. He also barks out of jealousy whenever Charlie, who is more dominant, butts Toby out of the way when he is getting attention. I try not to let Charlie do that but Toby just backs away and barks more if Charlie even looks like he wants to assert his rights. They are very competitive over attention even though they get along fine otherwise.

Tried the lemon trick—doesn't work with this one. I am resigned to having a barker.

It's sometimes just enough to disrupt their focus so you can redirect their attention to you. It probably won't work on all dogs but there were times Emma and Darby were barking and howling so harmoniously I couldn't get a word in edgewise. The pack transitioned over to just the word "ENOUGH!" pretty well. But Meesha and Kaytee are hobby barkers so the metal sounds are still used on occasion.
