Loose dogs, questionable owners, and a splash of wine

Yesterday, was just the most oddball day I've had in a long time. It started with our neighbors. Josh and I don't particularly care for them because of how they treat their dogs. Their dogs are fed and appear healthy enough, but they are outside 24 hours a day without human companionship. It rains here weekly, and it's not uncommon to see the dogs having the torrential rains pounding them. They have one dog house that is kept upside down with tall weeds in front of it. The fence is hardly secured. If you keep a dog outside, shouldn't you make sure that it is properly contained, has adequate shelter, and wouldn't you at least pay attention to it?

But I digress...

One of the two dogs got out yesterday. The one that our neighbors pointed out to us was unspayed and vicious. So, how wonderful was that? They took their time recapturing her, only to, again, leave her outside, without trying to fix their fencing.

Later, Josh and I went to the bank and saw a row of cars stock still as a guy was racing down the street. Next thing we knew - ZOOM! a miniature pincher raced past us. He had a harness on, so I suspect he must have dashed out of the house before his owner could get his lead on.

And yet our third odd dog moment was on our way to get my glasses from the optometrist. We were driving down this busy city street when Josh sees this beautiful sheltie just standing on the side of the road. He pulled over, got out of the car and the dog came to him. As he searched his neck for ID, a guy in a car yelled to Josh that the dog was his. Josh came back to the car. Why would you have your dog on a city street, next to a busy four lane of traffic, while you sit in your car?

And the icing on the cake for the end of the day was... we went to a restaurant and just as our dinners where being served to us, the waitress wastes an entire glass of Cabernet Savignon all over me. She was mortified, so was the owners of the restaurant, who took my meal and our drinks off the bill.

That was the weirdest Saturday I had in a long time.

At least it wasn't pot of HOT coffee.....
One of my biggest pet peeves is the owners who leave their dogs out all year in all weather and the ones who let them wander out alone.

We have a neighbor who had a rottie. As a baby, they took him for walks. But then they left him in a doug house, all day, all night alone. he got out twice and attacked a Jack Russle and its owner - almost killed the dog and the human was hospitalized. Second time he attacked another dog and I don't know the details but since then, he is gone. Poor thing, I used to hear him all night long barking and crying...

I should have called the rottie rescue....maybe you should?
Rescue can't take the dog unless the owner wants to surrender...
Sad but, true!
I really sympathise with the loose dogs situation

I'm personally considering kidnapping the next dog who walks past my house unaccompanied
To be honest, we both wish we could call animal control, but I'm not sure what they could do. The dogs are healthy in appearance. But the unsecured yard is what concerns us most. They can easily squeeze through the gate, or hop on top of the tree stump that's at the back of the property to jump on the other side.
