How long does the sheepie's hair grow? (how many inches aprox.) Are there dogs with different hair lenghts? (sometimes I see pictures of dogs with hair as long as 7", and some others with hair as long as 4") How long does it take for hair to grow completely? Is it ok to have different shades of gray? Thank you all for your replies! |

Someone more knowledgeable will chip in re max length and time it takes to grow.
But sheepies hair grows really long when left to itself but lots of owners clip or scissor the coat shorter so that they dont need to spend hours brushing each week to keep their sheepie's coat from matting. It depends on how much time you have and how good Flash is at lying still and letting you brush him. As someone mentioned in your introduction post, if you want to have his coat long then you need to start getting him used to a brush straight away. |
It grows approximately 1/2 an inch a month and I don't think there is a maximum length. |
if I remember right It took Toby about 3/4 years to get his full coat......after that we did the puppy cut on him every year. By the time Winter got around again he was pretty long again and ready for the cold.
He loved his hair cuts.......I loved his hair cuts lol |
We had Asterisk shaved in February, due to matting. Her coat now is about 7 inches long. Wendel's coat was trimmed to a puppy cut and is now at 6 inches.
I think Asterisk's fur will even out to about 9 inches, but then we will do the puppy cut again in spring. It's just easier on them when it gets so humid here. April is the worst here, it rains daily, nothing worse than a muddy puppy. |
I think some of it depends on the dog's genes too b/c my byb OES' hair never grows. I mean it grows, but nothing like everyone with dogs of standard seem to say. A year later and my dog's hair is no where near a full looking coat. Not even kinda.
Our new dog grows as described above though. |
