What is your dogs favorite to-die-for treat ????

Our sheepie loves Bil Jac Liver treats best !!
Nutro chops are a close second...

Also, can you please suggest some homemade dog treat recipes...

My girls love pedigree marrow bones.... and anything dropped on the floor
My dogs love liver! I buy beef liver, sprinkle it with garlic powder and put it in a 250 oven until it dries out, about an hour or two. Rosco will lay in front of the oven and cry until it's done. The problem is that it smells so gross it makes me gag. Daisy loves cherry tomatoes, and when it's hot they all like frozen kool-aid ice ciubes although they never seem to know just what to do with them.
The homemade liver treat sounds like a great idea, but I can't even stand the smell of roast beef or any other kind of meat in the oven.... yuck! LOL
Since one of my hobbies is baking, I bake dog biscuits for Barney. The following recipe comes from the intro to The Professional Pastry Chef by Bo Friberg of the Culinary Institute of America. He bakes them for his Akitas. I Roll the dough out and cut it into 1/2 in squares.

12 oz whole wheat flour
12 oz bread flour
2 oz wheat germ [I substitute oatmeal - its cheaper]
1 tsp. salt
2 tbsp. brown sugar
3 eggs
1 cup vegetable oil
3 oz powdered milk
1 cup water

Combine dry ingredients, add eggs. oil & water. Mix to form very firm dough that is smooth & workable. Adjust by adding flour or water. Cover dough and set aside to relax for 15 - 20 minutes. Roll to 1/2 in. thick. Cut out biscuits. Bake on sheet pan @375° for 40 min. or until brown and rock hard. Cool & store in covered container.
They don't really sound like they would be appealing to a dog? No meat, no flavor? Dancer is picky though, I know she wouldn't eat them. Sky might.... she'll eat anything. LOL
I've used that recipe but instead of water I used full strength beef broth to add more flavor.
I think garlic would be a good addition too, they love it and it's good for them.
I also add flaxseeds or flax oil to my treats, a good thing for dry skin. I also have a recipe for really easy treats using a can of food mixed with flour, if I can find it I'll post it.
To get lots of recipes go to twodogpress.com or thepoop.com. You can enter "dog treat recipes" in your search engine and tons of stuff will come up.
Thank you so much to everyone for the recipes and
suggestions!!

Correct me if I'm wrong but I had always heard that garlic was bad for dogs because it contains the same toxin (thiosulphate) as onions do and can cause hemolytic anemia (where the red blood cells burst inside the body.) I'd be careful feeding my pets anything in the onion family.
I have never heard that about garlic, my breeder used it liberally for all her dogs. I'll check it out just to be sure-Thanks

a little cube of cheddar cheese get's my girls attention.
How funny- I was just about to ask this... from what I've read most TDFs are liver or cheese based. How much do you guys use when training per reward?

Karen :)
Abby loves Oyster crackers. Heck I love Oyster crackers tossed with a little olive oil and powdered ranch dressing mix baked for a few minutes in a conventional oven. Yummie!

Grannie Annie always said that hot dogs sliced about "penny" thin microwaved crisp worked well. I just can't seem to get the time right and they burn and smell awful.
We have been cutting the tdf treats small, for example
the Bil jac liver treat is cut into four small pieces. I give a
grand finale treat at the end of the training session, for example the Nutro chop.

Just learned a new recipe from our trainer--
Take a different small kibble (sample size bags are great), mix with
pounce (cat treats), cut pupperoni ( or similar treat) place into a plastic
bag and in the fridge. Its a chex mix type training treat !!

The trainer advised that cat treats are like candy to a dog,
secondary to having a stronger flavor......
We had a very focused training session, pup loved the chex mix !!!
Garlic does contain thiosulphate like onions but most of the info says that there is lower percentage in garlic than in onions and therefor a lot more would need fed in order to get the same toxicity levels.

Here is a site that explains it pretty well.

Carrots. Pooh LOVES carrots. No calories, no fat...it's the perfect treat! Baby carrots and I usually split into 3s. He'll do anything for them.
