another food quandary

I know there are many posts on which dog foods are best on this board, and I have read a great deal- yet still i post! I guess that's what keeps this wonderful board going.
Here's my issue- Zak and Stella have both been on a strict diet of Hills Prescription diet ID- for a couple years now. This was recommended when Stella was having constant battles with diarrhea- and this food seemed to do the trick. Since both dogs always eat each others food- my vet suggested just feeding them both the food.
I mix up a batch of ID kibble mixed with a can of wet ID and a generous soaking of water- since stella doesn't drink enough.
Here's the problem- now that they are both large dogs this is costing me a little over $80.00 a week! Is this a high price for feeding two large dogs or is this close to being normal? Should I try another food, mixing it slowly in to their diets to cut down cost, or would that just be selfish?
I am so mixed up on this- if stella gets sick again, whatever money i saved will just go to the vet bills, but honestly this is really expensive.
what would you do- try- consider?

When the vet started to recommend the Hill's prescriptive for the same reason I started to look for alternatives because of the price (hey I'll spend $100 a week on training the dogs, but feeding them?)

We spend about $200 every six weeks for four large dogs feeding raw, this I found much more acceptable and comparable to or slightly higher than all of the good kibble I previously bought.
That's a little high but you're in an expensive area, too, aren't you? With three dogs, I go through a 30 pound bag of high quality food in about a week and a half so I'm spending just under $150/month. I do all my food shopping at an independent pet store with great prices, too, though.

I'm recently annoyed that Nutro Ultra stopped making 40 pound bags but charging the same amount for 10 pounds less. Now that everything is 30 pounds, there's no real bonus to continue using Nutro so we're trying out a few other brands. Eagle Pack Holistic has always been pretty agreeable with the dogs but I'm trying Wellness because it's more easily accessible in case I have to pick up an emergency bag somewhere. The OES can eat anything, it really all comes down to what the Komondor can tolerate. Somehow along the line, my breeds got their digestive systems reversed.
Bailee (one year old today and 75 lbs.) has eaten Innova Large Breed Puppy food since we have had him. He eats a 15 lb. bag in a little over 3 weeks. We pay about $24 a bag and every 11th bag is free from a small independent Pet Supply here in our town. The food must agree with his digestive system as we have never had any issues with those you have mentioned.
