Hi,
I use a whitening shampoo. I can't remember the name of it, but I buy it in gallon jugs and then dilute it (it's supposed to be diluted). I don't use a conditioner because it makes the hair too soft. If your pup has any kind of special skin or coat condition, then you would want to use a shampoo designed to treat that condition. Were you looking for name brands? |
Talk to your local groomer they usualy have the newest info on shampoo's.Ours are constantly changing as newer and better ones come out.She may even be able to give you a small sample. |
Usually when I take Pisco to the groomers they use a white hair shampoo....but after a week he starts smelling...last time it was sunny and hot so I dicided to bath and groom him myself and I used johnson`s baby shampoo...cleaned him beautifully and no problem to the skin....still smells beautifully after 10 days |
Okay, I can admit this since Vero did.
I use baby shampoo on Shayleigh. Usually buy it at a 'dollar' store. And I use nice soft human hairbrushes on her as well. My sister spent over $300 on grooming supplies for her Scotty. My Shayleigh goes the economical route - maybe $30, tops - including electric and nail clippers. 5 to 10 minutes a day then maybe 30 minutes once a week and Shayleigh always looks pretty good. We tend to overdo it a bit, I admit. Shayleigh has a 'wardrobe' of bandanas to wear (a Hawaiian print looks best). We also put a 'poof' in the hair on her head (with bow) so we can see those adorable OES eyes. Gads, we're nuts. hehe |
I use hartz dog shampoo with conditioning in it. It is meant for dogs with long hair, and detangles it nicely, as well as leaving her clean and smells great. It's only about 6$ at a pet supply store. |
I have been using Tail n Mane( or is it Mane and Tail?) or a very diluted Pantene Pro V. I take about a quarter of a cup of Pantene in a quart of warm water. Shake. Add more water if it doesn't last the whole bath.
Sometimes I just hose her off and knock of most of the big stuff. Brush her out and powder her with cheap bath powder. |
Not sure how it would work on a Sheepie ...
But other breeds do well when sprayed with a spray bottle containing 1 part listernine to 1 part water. It freshens their coat (between baths) and eliminates odor without the risk of drying the skin from too frequent bathing. It has to be regular, plain old listerine (or the generic) as the new, flavored listerines contain sugar. Imagine what sugar would do to the coat! For a shampoo that will clean the coat and condition their skin -- find out what the groomers are using! They are always happy to share the latest new product, and as Toot said, a lot of times will give you a free sample! (PetSmart & PetCo are two easy places to talk to the groomers!) |
I generally use diluted baby shampoo, the bargin brand. My reason for it is Tyler and Kieras eyes, with so much hair around the eyes, I want to be as kind and carefull as possible. Baby shampoo is no more tears no more tangles, so they also blow out really good. But as a disclaimer, I don't let my sheepies get past 4 inches in hair length in the winter and shaved down pretty short for the summer and early fall months. It is early August now and I am about to give them a hair cut with the next bath.
However if either dogs skin is really sensitive or if they have hot spots I will use oat meal shampoo on their bodies but still use the diluted baby shampoo on face and head. |
