We got this great idea that they would make a dog walk! It is in the same part of the yard that I use already. So, Todd got out the chainsaw, and sawed them off into stumps 4 feet all. For the planks, we have a whole stack of retired wood bleachers from an area school when they removed them and installed aluminum bleachers. They were just hanging out in the hayloft, waiting for a project! Todd threw down 3 of them, and the project continued. We screwed the horizontal one onto the tops of the stumps. Amazingly, the level read dead-on level!! (Maybe he should go into chainsaw carving??) Then he pounded out the metal brackets at an angle on one end of the ramp boards, and fastened through that onto the horizontal board. Here they are in the raw state: Then I got out my leftover obstacle paint and sand. Breanna and I were the happy painters! The planks had a little give in them on the ramp ends, so Todd added some support boards and screwed them in as well. I next added the "cleats" for the ramp sides, as well as some foam in the uneven parts where the boards attach. (no picture yet) So, for virtually NO $$$ we changed a couple dead trees into agility equipment! On a down note, Chewie loves the table so much that he threw himself onto it too hard and snapped the PVC legs off it. My fault, as they were out in sunlight, and not rated for that. Legs were flying and snapping, he was trying to climb up the sides and get into a down. Almost comical, but I applauded his valient effort! I have new (metal pipe) legs ready to install tonight after work... |

WOW!!! Dawn!!!!! GREAT WORK!!!!!!! and no money left your wallet!!! congratulations for a job well done...(((Todd and Breanna TOO!!!) |
Agility art!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I don't think my PVC is rated either and it stays out in all kinds of weather... Uh-oh... Dawn, that's hilarious. And ingenious. Kristine |
cute
Is it the camera angle or does that approach seem awfully long? Just be careful the sides are not slanted and that Chewie doesn't have Marley's tendancy to take the shortest route even if it's off the side |
Another reason to move to Mankato........ |

LOL - good one! Kerry, they are very level, as per the level. It is an optical illusion, all the pieces are the same length. There is a slope on the ground away from the stump on the far side, but it just affects the slope up/down the ramp angle, not tipping toward one side or the other. I will try and get another picture in the next couple days of the finished project. It will be a few minutes before sunset when I get home and Chewie needs to work ! |
