This sounds REALLY good!!!!! So glad you posted this since crockpot recipes is all I've been doing every day since I can't do much around the house now. I'll probably try it thurs since mr. j is going to the store for me later today. |
let us know how this turns out Mrs. J |
This sounds like a delicious recipe and I will try it.
Whenever I see a recipe regarding Lemon Chicken, I can't help but think about Everyone Loves Raymond....Lemon Chicken was Deborah's favorite to make and Raymond was tired of it. I belive it was also the first meal she ever made for him. Thank you for the great recipe. |

The receipe sure looks good. It may be "what's for dinner" tonight !! |
yum - add those ingredients to the shopping list! |
having trouble figuring out flavor so went out and bought makins'. We'll see......... |
Mr. J bought the lemon concentrate today, so I will also try it if not tomorrow... the day after. |
Reminds me of sweet and sour.....but without the thick goop. Hubby gives it a Big Thumbs Up. Fun in the mouth.
I used only catsup, no salsa for maiden voyage. Be sure to get a nice brown on the chicken pieces for flavor and maybe withstand sogginess. Not saying crust was soggy, but borderline. Definately going in the keepers box. |
Since the mere thought of eating catsup makes me gag would there be a noticable difference if I left it out? |
My salsa is the kind with beans and corn, so maybe my sweet BBQ sauce would work better?
LeAnne picked up the lemon concentrate and Dr Pepper tonight - it's going in the crock pot tomorrow! |
Sounds wonderful--definitely will try this one! |
No tell tale catsup flavor, but you do need some body to the sauce. Maybe a heaping Tablespoon of tomato paste would do. BBQ sauce fine, salsa OK depending on type. I guess that was my one slight complaint, the sauce was a bit too thin......but nothing like a thick goop sauce. |
Just wanted to say that you could mix the sauce in the pan you fried the chicken in and heat it for a couple of minutes and scrape off the fried bits from the bottom of the pan and then pour it on the chicken. This will give the sauce more flavour. Also, this recipe is versatile . You can substitute pizza or spaghetti sauce for the ketchup or orange juice concentrate for the lemonade . I've added a bit of leftover bruschetta and substituted maple syrup for the brown sugar. Whatever's hanging around the fridge and however daring you feel ! I've made variations of this recipe and it's always turned out great. If you want a thicker sauce then coat the chicken more heavily with flour and brown it well. It will thicken the sauce without altering the taste too much. |
I made the recipe last night and it was a BIG hit. Luckily I had expanded the recipe a bit, as we had 3 extra people over for supper I didn't know about.
I used the sweet BBQ sauce in place of the ketchup and it worked great. I served it over rice, with sides of leftover squash and salad. I have enough for my lunch today at work too |
Is everyone sure this is good? The title sounds good, but then ketchup and salsa and worcheshire and dr pepper sounds so strange! |
Don't worry, everything cooks together. The worchestersire sauce tames the ketsup, the lemonade gives a sweet/sour aspect tempered by the tomato. If you've ever made your own sweet/sour sauce you know the sum far exceeds the individual items.
You can be assured I didn't waste the brown bits in the skillet from the chicken, I deglazed with white wine I keep near the stove just for this purpose. |
Question: is the lemon juice concentrate the lemonade
concentrate? I could only find lime of the non-ade type. It seems like lemonade would be way too sweet, especially with the Dr pepper. I may try this with my own variation. Maybe even tonight. Shellie |

Yes, lemonade concentrate, about half of the usual size can. Yes, it seems all very strange and does taste "weird" initially, but after four hours cooking "it just works out." |
Hey Everyone . I posted this recipe because I think it's good. I've made it lots of times . I don't post that often on this site but I'm a foodie and a good cook and if you don't think it sounds good then don't try it. |
and the leftovers for lunch were good too. |
(finally getting around to this one)
Ok Sheepieboss, I'm putting total trust in you on this one. I trust that it will all come together in the end... I'm making this for company after the football game tonight. I'm actually a really good cook, I just don't usually go for the sweet n sour stuff. I've gotten into the old rut, thought I'd try something different. It was this or the black bean chicken Mrs J posted. Thing is, I don't have sweet potatoes, just tons of butternut squash from the garden. I will let you know how it went over. Shellie |
Well I made it friday night. We had it after the game, when
we were all hungry. Personally I didn't care for it, but everyone else liked it. Like I said I'm not much for sweet n sour and it really was too sweet for me. The sour was good though. If you like sweet n sour, and many do, it's a winner. (on a side note our 'sudo-son' ran 326 yards, got 6 touchdowns and set a school record at the game!! He was even on tv!We are so proud! and he did like the chicken ) Shellie |
If you don't like sweet, no it wouldn't be for you. Glad others liked it.
Congrats on son's BIG day! |
I'm so glad to hear about the game! That's a lot of touchdowns! He has to feel pretty good about himself!!
I still haven't tried this BUT plan to. My lemon concentrate is in the fridge (it's the kind the lasts for 8 wks in the fridge). |
It goes together very quickly. Very easy to do. I
used a lot more chicken than it called for, and I still thought there was quite a lot of sauce to it. Shellie |
Yeah, I had far more chix than the recipe called for too. I'm not wild about things dripping in sauce. |
It took FOREVER, but I finally made it.
Mr. J wasn't a fan but ate it. ...said the sauce tasted funny and was bland. It does need seasoning. It didn't taste like lemon chicken which is what I went in expecting, but personally liked it! I plan on eating it again for lunch AND again for dinner I won't throw out the recipe. Glad the OP posted it. I used ketchup and used a lot of flour to coat the chicken because that's how I like mine in general ...not to mention I like a thick sauce. I also thought it was the perfect amount of sauce for the only THREE big pieces of chicken I used. Sauce was thick which again must have been the flour I used. I'm assuming the cat wanted to join in too since she rarely comes downstairs. Thanks for giving us another crockpot recipe. ETA: It tasted even better at lunch |
