Can't get Chiquita to stop jumping in this one chair.

We don't want Chiquita on the furniture. Not that our furniture is special but she's huge and usually dirty    We have one recliner that if she jumps up in it she can see out the front window. She's is in that chair every 15 minutes. I have tried loud "eh eh eh's" and putting her in her room every time she gets in the chair. We are very consistent that the chair is a no-no. But she has still taken to getting in it ALL DAY LONG! I've tried shaking a jar full of coins as well that just about made her poop in the chair but didn't seem to make her not like the chair.

Any suggestions at all? :D

Move the chair? It seems like it isn't the chair itself so much as the vantage point it gives her that she likes, so...? May disturb your decor, but perhaps less annoying in the long run. Just a thought.

A friend's rescue dog stayed with me for a few days last week and I found her standing on a bookshelf so she could see out. At home she can lay in a bay window and comment on the world  I happen to have a bay window as well, but dogs aren't allowed in that room except accompanied by me, so she improvised. Even Sybil hadn't thought of that one so was probably envious

Our trainer told us to put a few coins in a can and give it a good quick shake. As weird as it sounds it works amazingly well. When she gets up on the chair give it a quick shake and tell her "OFF!" It took Bailee less than 2 shakes of a lambs tail (pardon the pun) and he stopped. The important thing is to not overdo the can thing. Like anything else the more they are exposed to it the less effect it will have.

They did say they tried the can shaking already.

I'm with moving the chair. Unless you are ready for a LONG struggle with it. She wants the view, not the chair - the chair is just a perch to get a good look out the window. Perhaps you can place some item of furniture there that she can be on? Something with an easy to clean surface or cover?
If you don't want to move the chair, put a heavy duty table behind the chair for her use. Praise her when she is on it.

When we got new livingroom furniture, I moved a side table away from where their favorite chair was located. They haven't been up on the new furniture at all - and that side table was a favorite haunt.
I personally would just try for a few more months. Nothing with these guys seem to come quick EXCEPT for recognizing when it's dinner time. We had the same problem, ,and it's slowly getting better. I just can't imagine moving a piece of furniture that is meant to go somewhere b/c of a dog. BUT if you can, that is wonderful ...I just think if you're as consistent as I believe you are, then it'll eventually happen. I have to believe it b/c that's what I rely on. ;) Ours is STARTING to make it apparent to us he at least knows he's not suppose to be on there, and from my experience... what comes next is actually not doing it.
If we want to keep a wet dog off a chair, we lift the cushion and turn it sideways so they can't get on it.

Have you ever seen those plastic no-slip mats that you put on carpet under a computer chair? They have those poky plastic nibs on the bottom. You might see if there's a smaller size and put it upside down in the chair. Just make sure the nibs won't cause her any harm... the idea is to make it less comfortable so more unappealing to the dog.
I'm with those who suggested move the chair. Life's to short to spend it fighting with a stubborn sheepie if you dont have to.
And I'd put something in that spot that you dont mind her sitting on? I think someone else suggested an old coffee table. Or maybe a large foot stool kind of thing if she likes her comforts.
thanks for the hints....your ideas gave me an idea. I put a footstool on the chair during the day. I heard her jump up and bounce off it once  She didn't try again.   SCORE ONE FOR ME  :P I'm hoping it will take her mind off of the 'beloved' chair for a while and then start training again. If it doesn't start working I'm all for moving the chair. Except for the fact that we have a very difficult rancher style living room with too many windows and no where else to rearrange the furniture to. But, sheepies do tend to take over......as hard as I try not to let her.
 We bought our furniture for the dogs! Nice big 2 Dog couch......with multiple blankets/remove the back cushions for extra room....remember to put cushions on when company comes. Giant chair and foot stool, good for 2 dogs, also multiple blankets. Humans get the recliners.

Obviously we ask company call ahead so we can whip off the blankets and replace back cushions.

I was getting ready to switch my foster dog Breezey's bio
to
"must have futon"
I miss a clean house but, oh well....maybe one day!

Good Luck!

You reminded me, years ago when Wayne and I were first married we had cheapie "one of us is still a student" furniture. The two lounge chairs were really light weight, so to keep the pets off them I would just tip them up on end.

I forgot to tip them back one day when a friend came to visit. I didnt notice as we walked through the living room so she had to ask about the furniture.

I think she thought I was mad.
