Is anyone familiar with the issue? Thanks! |

I'm familiar with that *not* happening automatically. I always dread when my recurring subscription / online credit card is due to expire. |
In my experience they don't. |
For mine, they don't automatically update and you have to remember all the places that have your card on file. |
They don't for me. |
Heh. I found this online from January 2008:
Quote: Eight years ago Visa started working on a program they call Account Updater (VAU). They created an automated system that directly interfaces with merchant accounts and updates customers credit card information. Apparently they charge the merchant 30 to 50 cents per update. From another place in that site: Quote: Visa estimates that 50% of cardholders experience a change in their account information every year [including] expiration date[. ...]
Fortunately [...] a program run by Visa and MasterCard, that automatically updates a customers credit card number or expiration date when changed. The program will also provide notification if the account has been closed. The process is entirely transparent to the cardholder. Source:http://www.braintreepaymentsolutions.com/ Aha! So it does exist! Any merchant that forces you to update your info, especially those "sophisticated" enough to send you a reminder that they are aware that your account info needs updating, are bothering you becuase they don't want to spend the 2 bits to get the changes automatically. Personally, I'd happily pay a fee of $1.00 per change or 50 cents per year (or something similarly reasonable) to any merchant who promises to keep my card info up-to-date automatically. They could make money and provide a real customer convenience benefit! |

I go through my statement for several months to ensure I've got everyone! I wrote a list last time, since they sent me a new credit card after my number was abused and I had to find them all. Of course I can't find the list...
Stupidly, they sent the new card with the soon-to-expire expiration date, so now I have to do this all over again, less than a year since the last time. My new card will expire in 5 years -- why couldn't they update that when changing the number?? Let's see.... Cell phone accounts (x 3!), home phone line, cable and internet (FiOS) Newspaper delivery webhosting account, domain name registration account Roadway toll transponder (Fastlane / Easy Pass) Express gas doohickey online stuff (Apple iTunes account, travel sites (x2), paypal, ebay, amazon.com) mailorder prescriptions I'm sure I forgot some... |
