It's been two days now and he has been eating regularly (rice and kibble) and no poop! Is it normal for a dog to be constipated or just not have anything to poop out after a bout with diarrhea? Normally I wouldn't be too concerned but this is kind of what happened when the corn cob was stuck in there (except he has not vomited). |

I have seen that pattern with Morgan. If it continues for a couple of days or he starts vomitting I would check with the vet. |
Thanks Kerry. I think the rice tends to plug him right up, so hopefully after the exercise and full meal he got today we will see some poop tomorrow! |
It happens they have the dreaded squirts bad and nothing left in the system so when you start back on a lighter diet nothing passes as they are completely empty so can take 2-3 days to have a bowel motion.
Kerrys advice is spot on, vomitting then straight off to the vets, no poops for more then a couple of days then start to introduce a little handfull of his kibble to give him some roughage. Just monitor him, make sure he is not running a temp and when he does finally go check the formation that is all getting back to normal. Any doubts, not himself, then afraid another vet visit. |
Rice is considered a low residue food - more absorbed than passes through. It is one of the staples for treating diarrhea (bananas, applesauce and toast are the others).
Depending on how severe the diarrhea was, and how much was eaten, it is possible that there just isn't anything in the large intestine (yet) to be passed. Good advice was given above. |
I have found it to be completely normal for my dogs to miss a day or two after the runs. |
As a human with IBS, I can vouch for the same.... |
he pooped this morning, woohoo! thanks for all the advice. |
Poor Rudie... good thing he's super cute. Hopefully this will be the last of his gastrointestinal problems for a while. |
