We have two oes (pirate and lizzie) and a border collie (keira). Liz is the last one in the pack. But I see she and pirate have really bonded. When we work, all three are crated. Pirate and Keira's crates are next to each other, because that is the way its always been. Lizzie's is about 4 feet away. We used to think that Pirate was banging his crate around when we weren't home, to escape. That was the result. We put "D" rings on the crate door and now the banging keeps the crate door closed. But...he still does it. It has occured to me...he does it TO GET HIS CRATE NEXT TO LIZZIE'S!!! That is were he always stops. Today when I left, I put all three crates in row, so they can all be together. It sounds cute, but! (and yes, I am humanizing them) I feel so badly for Keira!!!! She's the odd man out! Do you think her feelings are hurt? Do you think she even realizes this? Poor darling, Keira. |

She has a beautiful face, love her eyes....
It's funny how oes bond with their own kind.... Willy's best friend however is my parent's puppy Buddy who is a lab/aussie mix. Here Dancer is the odd one out now. Panda and Piper are like glue, sometimes I think they share a brain. |
She is so cute!!!!! and I agree, she looks like a real sweetie...
I have wondered that about Coz...Pearl and Heart, well anyone can see they are connected, Heart does look up to Pearl as MOMMY...but since Coz is a beardie, he IS the odd man out...in more ways than ONE. But, my reasoning is.... at least they are ALL Black, White and Gray.... |
Most Borders I know wouldn't lower themselves to be sheepdogs. However, a change in crate positions is good for them, changing routines can be stimulating.
Did you think Pirate may feel more secure with Keira nearby? The boy may need to be closer to the "brains" of the organization. |
Beautiful pic of Keira. In our house it is Violet who is the odd dog out. The two Aussies, China/Asia are like bookends, usually together even when we are trying to go through the doorway, they go side by side. lol |

Cute picture! At first I thought her pink collar was her tongue |
I don't think you are silly to "humanize" their feelings but maybe I am not the best person to ask.
However, like human relationships you can't force bonding or stop the natural gravitations between two beings. They will work it out amongst themselves. If they are "excluding" her she can always have some extra special time with her mom. |
I'm curious to find out how their day went with the new crate locations.
I think it was certainly worth a try! |

I think it was certainly worth a try! I am too. Tony will flip when he see all three big crates lined up the Radio City Music Hall Rockettes! |
When I got home all the crates were exactly where I left them! So it appears, Pirate's mission was to get next to Lizzie. But! By moving Lizzie, Keira got to be by Pirate as well. That ol' hound dog has a harem! |
Sounds like it went well!
I am doing a room cleaning/crate moving today as well. Just waiting for this section of carpet to dry, then I can move everything. We'll see how mine like it tonight! |
