My groomer has a lovely compound with kennels on a couple acres. Not only does she have the usual dogs and cats, she has 3 peacocks. The male is typical in his beauty. Sometime ago, the male suffered an injury. While recovering, he spent a great deal of time with a care giver. That time left him with human imprint and now he is as velcro as a sheepdog. When customers arrive, he greets them at the gate and follows them everywhere. A full grown male peacock is not a small bird and one that wants to be up close and personal can be a bit off putting to some folks. Because he wants to be around people, my groomer is afraid he will follow someone out of the fenced area and wander into the very busy street. She's also afraid Mr. Peacock won't leave in time when a dog with high pray drive is out for exercise. So, she now keeps him in a small fenced area during business hours. It's not fair to the bird, but it's the only choice to keep him safe. So, anyone within driving range of Salt Lake, that has acerage, and has always dreamed of owning their own Peacock, let me know. I'll put you in touch with my groomer. |

Oh, I wish. I'd love to have a roaming peacock... |
I finally heard a male peacock's "call" and it indeed sounds like a human scream. Beautiful plumage though. |
In a neighborhood near my office a man from a long time ago had a lot of peacocks. Either they escaped or some did, or were let free, but my office complex had its very own peacock for a while, and it was huge. Very pretty, though. It was odd to be in your office and look out the window and see a peacock! |
Here was our peacock...

Might take care of the neighborhood kid issue |
Lovely birds but glad the ones across the fence are gone.........well, not really, the dogs loved to bark at the male when he'd hop over the fence and fan the dogs Fortunately there was another fence between Mr. Confused and the dogs. |
Oh I want one. Though driving all the way to Utah is kinda out of the question. I have really been considering getting a couple though. HEHE doesn't everybody need some moving yard art? |
We had peacocks, none recently though. Todd's dad raised them.
They do yell loud - sound like a human screaming We have a lot of wind here. The poor peacocks would get blown around when they had their tail plumage up. Oliver (1st OES) and our cock would have territory issues. The bird wanted to be on one side of the fence, Ollie thought he really needed to stay on the other side. The hens just roamed where ever they wanted! |
There used to be a Greenhouse out in the country around here that raised peacocks. They roamed free, out and about while people shopped for flowers and shrubs.
One day, as I turned into the parking lot, one came from NO WHERE and I hit it. TAIL FEATHERS EVERYWHERE. It was tramatic for me and everyone watching. I tend to shy away from peacocks now... |
I dont know if I would want one, like Turkeys the males have those spurs on there feet. They are certainly beautifull the males in all there glory and colour. Have you seen the white ones? Quite lovely too even though not the vibrant colours of the normal male peacock. . |
