I was wondering if someone can please help me. I have had my OES since he was 10 weeks old. He just turned 9 yrs in May. This past Feb. I had to give him up to a rescue. The woman who adopted him is wonderful we talk and she keeps me posted on him. Recently the dog bit her granddaughter and she needed stitches. This week he tried to bite her husband and is not listening to her. I have gone through very tough times and my Higgins has been with me all the way, and has never bitten me. He did bite my son when he was a pup cause my son took food from him while we were in the training stages. The woman who has him now told me she may have to put him down if he bites again. Her granddaughter jumped on him while he was sleeping and he got her face. 32 stitches I was heart sick cause my dog was never like that he went everywhere, played with everyone. The only thing I can think of is my ex-boyfriend was a violent man and punched him in the face and my dog was only protecting me from my ex. Please help! He is like one of my children and all I have left in my life,,,, I lost everything. Thank you so much! |

Excuse me - but if a kid jumped on the dog why wouldn't he bite them? Your dog needs to be rescued from his rescuer IMHO. |
that was my thought also.

Has the rescue been notified of what's going on? Normally, that's the first thing that should happen in a situation like this. And I am sorry. This has got to be so stressful. Was it an OES rescue, or...? Kristine |
I agree with previous posts.
Its not fair to expect a dog especially an older and maybe stiffer dog to not react by biting when surprised from sleep by a child jumping on them. I hope you can sort it out for the best. |
The probabilty of a dog that age having hip related problems like arthritis is pretty high. I would have the dog vetted to rule out anything medical before any kind of decision is made. Not to make light of the first bite but in fairness the dog probably felt he was being attacked and was defendiing himself the only way he could. |
