Hi welcome to the forum.
I'm sure you'll get lots of good advice here. How recent is recently, he might still just be settling in to a new home. He's a lucky boy to have new people who care for him. |
Sounds like adjustment. Normal stuff. Just keep showing him what the routine will be in your home and reward him for doing even the smallest things you want.
If you have another dog, that will help him adjust faster - following the lead of the other. We have had a new foster dog for 2 weeks now, and he had a heck of a time. Of course, being 11 years old now and given up by his family that had him since puppyhood had to be the hugest shock imaginable!!! My other dogs are helping immensely. He cues in on what they are doing and follows their lead. He had severe stress diarrhea, wouldn't eat - both until just a few days ago. Do be careful though - set the house rules now and help him learn them. A common pitfall is to overly spoil them at 1st, then you have a dog who has all these bad habits later on that you let slide. Good luck with your new boy |
The first few weeks are awful......you'll be asking yourself....."What is going on here? What have I done?" But then magically something clicks and the dog decides.......Hey, this is my new home and I'm going to give it a chance.
Rescues often try their dardest to please you.......so hang in there, set those rules now...gently but firmly. Thanks for helping this OES baby, er adult. |
