I have been asked to pass on a message to all of you. I would like to let those of you know of someone who is running for Great Plains Regional Director from the floor. There are 3 persons running, I don't know and have never met the other person in all my years of involvement with OESCA, and the other I wouldn't give you the time of day for. Todd is someone new to us, yet has been in our breed for many years. As I, he was in the background for years with a career and a family and finally has the time to commit to the OES breed club. And the DESIRE to WANTS to as well! So I would like to ask you to please read his info and really consider voting for Todd Irion for Great Plains Regional Director when the ballot comes to your home. There really is no other reasonable choice!! I would also like to GREATLY add my support to Dianne Rowland Mckee for Vice President. I will be honest in that Dianne and I haven't always seen eye to eye, but Dianne is a very HONEST PERSON, who has always been there even at 3 in the morning for me when I had puppy problems. Dianne has the knowledge of this breed to help it into the next session having been a member of this club for ??? many years............ long before me! She is THE Choice when it comes to knowledge on not only this breed but how things have been run in this club for many years and how to help our breed club in the future. And last but not least Barbara Lamb to be re instated for President. I have known Barbara for 17 years now. She is as honest as the day is long. Barb has shown this in the past 2 years as President of OESCA. To be honest I was very surprised that Barb would consider running again after this past 2 year term. It hasn't been the easiest but I am proud that she is! Barb has run this club in an extremely professional manner. And the board made the previous board and committee members account for previous specialty dollars that were never accounted for. Barb was also instrumental in getting the Health Registry up and going after the membership voted to OPEN the Health Registry as well during her past tenure. She has run this club with the integrity that had been sorely lacking for the past umpteen years....... making the previous regieme accountable for their actions. Please consider the above people when your ballot comes.......... it is for the future of the breed!! Ali From: Todd Irion Sent: Tuesday, August 25, 2009 11:48 PM To: Todd Irion Subject: OESCA New Member Initiative To OESCA Membership, In a effort to better introduce myself, I've attached a brief flyer on some of my ideas for welcoming new members to our organization. I firmly believe that we need to reach out to new constituencies and use innovative communication techniques to broaden our membership. And, as you can see, I also believe we need to instill the love of OES in our youth so that they can solidify the success of OESCA for generations to come. If you have any questions about myself or any of my ideas for our organization, you can reach me at todd.irion@att.net. Todd Irion Nominee for the Great Plains Regional Director Position August 25, 2009 Since some of you have asked the question, who is Todd Irion? I’d like to take a moment and use this opportunity to let everyone know who I am and what my thoughts are for OESCA. I have graciously accepted the nomination for the position of Great Plains Region Director. I am honored and humbled by the request of so many, and look forward to serving if elected, on your behalf, for the Old English Sheepdog Club of America. After thoughtful deliberation, I came to the conclusion that this is the right time for me to offer my services. I am very excited about making a contribution. The following will provide some additional insight and ideas of mine for OESCA. First, I believe that it is imperative for the future of our organization to strengthen our membership, both in terms of quantity and participation. A key tenant of this is to reach out beyond our traditional touchpoints, and recruit new members. We must transfer the knowledge and rich history of our breed to new generations, and make new members welcome. Also, new and varied communication techniques can not only expand our influence, but also enrich the participation of existing members. Second, I firmly believe that the betterment of our breed is what we all should strive for and put first in everything that we hope to accomplish. Three areas where we can provide leadership include promoting the health of OES, uniting against extremists that threaten our organization, and strengthening our OESCA rescue effort. Regarding the health of our breed, we must continue down the path of transparency if we are to alleviate all genetic problems. So much effort and work has been done, and yet so much more needs to be attained. We must have a clear & coordinated front against animal extremist organizations. As an organization, we can help breeders to know and understand their rights, monitor pending legislation, aid in educating the public and legislators on the benefits of pure breed organizations, and dispel myths. A personal objective of mine is to better facilitate the process of assisting our OESCA rescue organization. Many people have donated extraordinary amounts of time and money to support these endeavors and they deserve our support. I know, because we just welcomed 14 year old “Sally” into our home this weekend. Sally has lived with the same family since she was 3 months old. Her parents were deployed overseas with only two weeks notice, and didn’t know what to do. Now they have peace of mind that she is in a loving home. It is incumbent upon all of us to make that extra effort in making sure we practice what we preach. Lastly, it is only through the collective and individual courage of each member that this foundation for the future can be attained. Courage will require restraint and compromise. Every voice should be heard and allow the position with the soundest argument to prevail. In the end we must show compassion in what we do, working to alleviate personal self promotion and focus on the causes of fairness, equality and respect among all of our membership. I am convinced that we need to unite the club by building a bridge that brings together the best efforts, the best accomplishments of the past and set the stage for the realistic needs of laying a foundation for the future. As I reflect upon my youth and the wonderful memories that were created by our beloved OES, I hope this passion transcends to the next generation. So many OES with such distinct personalities and yet all they ever wanted to do was to show their love to us. As I look to my young son and daughter, it is my hope that they both will have the same fond memories of the OES breed as I have. They both have now entered the ring and absolutely love it. Will the Old English Sheepdog Club of America be in existence when they reach my age? It is my intent to ensure that OESCA is not only alive and well but thriving. Again, I thank you all for your support and look forward to a spirited campaign. I wish my best to every candidate. Kind Regards, Todd Irion |

Is there a complete list of who is running anywhere? I looked on the OESCA site but some of the links don't work. |
The ballot will be sent out to members who qualify to vote. There should be a short "biography" of each person running so voting members can read about them & make a choice. I hope this forum doesn't become an area for political discussion for this upcoming election as many people on this forum are NOT OESCA members. I also feel we are all sensible adults who really don't need to be persuaded who to vote for or against. |
I agree with you Marilyn! While I agree that we are all entitled to an opinion there is certainly enough nastiness in this breed already, which only serves to divide us. |
I know who Mequpak would vote for Vice President if dogs had a say. |
I am also a little disturbed that I am receiving unsolicited emails from some of those who are running. I am getting these before I get the ballot in the mail.
The ballots and the bios should be enough. Or, let those who are running post their message on the OESCA site. For those who are members, please take your vote seriously. Don't make the election into a high school popularity contest. Our organization needs people who are best for the breed, best for leading the organization forward and together. |
I'm wondering why someone who is not even a member, and I'm not either, would solicit votes? Is there a hidden agenda or is it a popularity contest? This whole process seems odd..... |

I agree we should take this seriously - and I personally wouldn't mind the emails. IF I had the ballot already. This preemptive stuff (to only some of the members apparently) is annoying and not likely to result in votes. |

This preemptive stuff (to only some of the members apparently) is annoying and not likely to result in votes. I feel the same way. I didn't care for getting e-mails before even receiving the ballot. I think it's inappropriate. At the least, I think OESCA should send out an announcement first so the campaigning e-mails are expected. When strangers send out e-mails with attachments, I tend not to want to open them. I also think if you're going to take the time to send me a flyer, the least you can do is make sure that you've appropriately used apostrophes and capitalized the correct letters. |

Geesh you sound like a professor or something Off topic, but I am on the board to a Charter School and I absolutely hate to get the monthly principal's agenda because of the horrid grammar and spelling (and yes I know my typo ridden posts make that laughable). |
I know it sounds nitpicky but I think it says a lot more about someone that just what it is at face value. I think when you're doing something that is supposed to be "official" or "professional," it takes away your credibility as someone who pays attention to detail and takes the time to make sure that things that he or she does are done correctly. It's one thing to make typos in an online forum but it's another to make mistakes in documents that you're using as a calling card and to persuade people.

Since Ali ( Who is NOT a member of the OESCA and has resigned for her own personal reasons ) has posted this to the forum for the membership to view with her opinions and endorsements about Regional Director and Vice President.......I would like to say that this forum should NOT become part of the political election process for OESCA. That members such as Ali only present a "one sided opinion" on this election subject and for her friends only. I also believe that members on this forum who are OESCA members should be given all information by ALL candidates when making a decision as to the issues of the election that will have a lasting effect on a breed they love and dedicated their lives to. That they alone, should cast the vote for the candidate who they feel is best suited for the position. It is my understanding that anyone who accepts to run for the OESCA offices, either by nominations or by petitions are members of the OESCA and are in GOOD STANDING with the OESCA. Therefore, they are qualified members who have accepted the nomination for that position. I am sure if we allow others to have their say or opinions about candidates running on this ballot.......that there would be both favorable and bad remarks brought out by individuals depending on their friendships and their Policitical agendas or for what other reasons. I think when the ballots come to the membership of OESCA, the members must make those decisions of officers based upon the Bios and the leadership abilities and what would be to the best interest of not only the OESCA Club, but also the OES Breed. Including the health and welfare for a long term period.
I am also a Candidate for the Vice President position as is Mrs. Roland McKee. Before casting a vote for anyone candidate or position, I would encourage you to directly contact those who are running. Pick up the phone or send an email to them and get the information that is needed to vote. We don't have debates in OESCA as they do in the presidential forum to make a wise choice from the information given by the debates. Those of you who are members of OESCA should review the Bios and if you have questions, you should personally contact those candidates and talk directly to them about issues that concern you and the direction of the Breed and the Club. I personally, being involved in other Breed Clubs as an officer and President, have encouraged this type of a relationship with our members and have seen it work. I have spoken directly to individuals and have received questions and answers that have helped in making my decisions on matters. I would encourage this type of an "ELECTION AGENDA" and not endorsements from others on this Forum who may be biased. It is not fair to the other candidates who are running.......... not to be represented for these elections on this forum. I believe in Character, Honesty, Fairness and Integrity.......and holding others responsible for their actions. In this situation on the OES Forum, we have other good candidates who can not be represented or have a say on subject matters that are important. Therefore, they can not be heard or have a say as to the endorsements from others. We all have our friends and enemies that we would like to see in office and those who may want to see out? Be cautious as to others agendas and endoresments without investigating the real reason for such. I love this Forum and I watch many subject matters that come through and are talked about. I think there is many great members on this forum.........and great input. Ron has given us a Forum display for most of us to enjoy and share the one thing that brings us close as a family of OES lovers from all around the world! Maybe Ron would like to invite ALL the Candidates on this Forum for input and have a say as to their agendas if elected. I know that the OESCA would only allow candidates a 250 word bios. That is not enough for people to learn to much about them or their leadership abilities. If anyone has questions for me and my ideas for OESCA Vice President and the breed.....they can contact me on this email address. ( Bouvoes @aol.com) If you care about the breed and the Club, you will contact each member running before voting! Douglas W. Johnson Bugaboo OES |
I'd rather see all the OESCA candidates participate in a Texas lumberjack steel cage match to determine the new board.
And all the candidates would have to wear sequined spandex wrestling garb..... |
Nice points Doug, especially about emailing the candidates. Technology changes everything doesn't it? |
OK, we've been through this exact same scenario before, and here's how we're going to handle it.
I am going to lock this thread, and leave it available for another day so that people who may have read the original post have a chance to read the last posts, then I will remove the thread. |
