Autumn on the way

You can really feel fall in the air here already (as I mentioned in Deb's post), and that got me thinking...What are everybody's favorite late summer/fall activities?

For me...berry-picking tops the list. High bush cranberries, red currents, raspberries, watermelonberries and rosehips grow on our property, and blueberries can be found at a slightly higher elevation on the mountain. The dogs come with me, to supervise  the gathering, and Scott makes jams, jellies and flavored vinegars afterwards. Yum! :D

Oh how fun!!! What are watermelonberries??? I have never heard of those.
i WANT TO FALL/WINTER COOK!!!

Summer cooking is not me.
also the fall arts and crafts shows.
We have 2 BIG ones.

Hilton apple fest and
Letchworth State park in Oct. 3 days. big one
I would love to be blueberry picking up there!!!

For late summer activity:

Definitely would be taking the kids out to the splash pad. It's so dang hot in the summer that sep/oct is the only time I REALLY enjoy going.

For fall:

There is something called dewberry farm here. There's a corn maze, pumpkin picking, and hayrides. Lots of fun for the kids and it continues on for many of the fall/winter holidays.
Combine that with the weather being tolerable.. I love taking walks!!
Mmmm, donuts and fresh apple cider at Blakes :) . Then there's the haunted hayrides, peach festival, apple and pumpkin picking. A nice time to visit the zoo or Greenfield Village, not as hot and crowded as it is in summer.
You can tell that fall is coming. I had to get another blanket last night. I'm looking forward to the first fire of the season and a slowing down of all the outdoor activities. :)
Fall is my favorite season! I love the crisp air--the smell of burning leaves--and the first fire in the fireplace!
Football games---tailgate parties!
Apple cider!
The changing leaves and the color color everywhere!
Frisky Sheepies!
Sweaters and blue jeans!
Pumpkins--haybales--and cornstalks!

To name just a few things!

They're oval shaped red berries, that taste (faintly) like watermelon. Unfortunately, they have a ton of seeds, and not a lot of flavor, so they dont work very well on they're own for jams or jellies. We just mix them in with other things, or eat them off of the plant (spitting out all those seeds pttth! )

Ohh, I forgot the salmonberries! they look like bright orange raspberries. :)
It's not feeling like Autumn here it's feeling like Summer may be starting , but that said the daily blackberry pick out on our walks is nice this time of year, I just have to be careful not to get any on Archies whites!
As much as I like autum (my favorite season) this year I hope it is a ways off. We haven't had much summer in Ohio this year. A few very HOT days here & there but no real summer weather to speak of. :(

Their Caramel Apples are my favorites! When we visited MI this summer we made a special trip to Blakes to get their Caramel Apples, Apple Cider. Yummy!
I am going to go with Sheepiezone's list with one minor addition. Add a little Rum to that Apple Cider and sit by the fireplace petting your Sheepie. Doesn't get any better than that.

Oh that sounds good.

We have had 1 day that was 91. 8)

In a few days the night temps they say will be in the 40's and days in the 70's.... A long warm fall would be nice
We have had about a months worth of HOT, HOT, HOT, HUMID, HUMID, HUMID! What I would give for a forty degree night.
we had four days of 90, about two weeks of hot and humid - but before that rain rain rain rain - oh yeah and some mor erain. Actually it also rained during hot and humid and the 90's :(
I usually look forward to all 4 seasons and being from western MD we get them all. Since I'm retired medically, now 4 years, it gets harder each year to give up summer. Fall used to be my favorite, now it's just a predicessor to winter. I love snow but we haven't had " a good one in a few years " so I'm kinda bummed out at the loss of summer. I used to enjoy shovelling snow ( I know weird ). The cold now aggravates my joints and Renaulds is painful.
I have always been a sun and water lover. We lived on the coast of NC for 3 years when we were 1st married and I could retreat to the beach even in the winter... and more than once or twice in the snow. I've been prodding Bob to retire and move back, but because of his family obligations it will be a while and I'm OK with that, his parents are great and have been for 33 years. He still calls NC our home even though we were both born here in MD. Just a few weeks ago we were down for a visit, and Bob's mom said that they had been talking and that they were sure some day we'd move back. I said I'm sure we will but not now.
I just need to acclimate to retirement. I was a paramedic, ER nurse, then Transport/flight nurse and now to be retired to tough. Bob say it's the lack of adrenalin. I need an exciting...legal...hobby 8)
Okay...no slamming me here.

When the first signs of fall appear to me I immediately begin....

...Christmas Shopping, Christmas Planning, Christmas Dreaming, Christmas Wrapping, Christmas Baking, and generally creating Christmas planning list after list after list.

Yes, it's an addiction.

After all, it's only FOUR MONTHS from today!
 BOO, BAH HUMBUG
Spring is just about Sprung in upside down land :P The daffodills are out WOO HOO, :D
I enjoy the cooler weather, but don't want the cold of winter. So, it's kind of a mixed feeling for me when fall weather is here.

Although, I like it a lot more now that Chewie and I have taken up backpacking, carting and mushing. It definitely gives me something to look forward too.

And, I too enjoy snow shovelling!!! Todd does the plowing with the tractor and I do the hand shoveling and neatening....
 I love Autumn, it is the sign of xmas around the corner :D I love the winter berries, the colour of the trees, the cold crisp air, and above all long sheepie walks with wellies, mittens, hats and scarves, just magic

  I was actually happy to see the Christmas stuff in Hobby Lobby the other day!

Early fall is wonderful, but I agree, the later fall is the prelude to winter.....which here really isn't that bad at all except it is so brown. I love green grasses and leafy trees.

Spring here is so windy, so not that enjoyable. Summer is hot which I don't do well anymore. Sooooo upcoming weeks are my time
