It does seem a little slow.
I just got over a cold, which I'm glad wasn't worse since I'm so far along. ...but my two lo's now have it, which means lil J missed his first day of school today. I'm on "mom... just cuddle and don't let go of me" duty. |
If I were closer, I'd bring you homemade chicken matzo ball soup. Guarenteed to cure anything! |
I was wondering about how quiet it is too
Maybe everybody is outside doing "summer" stuff??? Last chance, as, at least here its almost all over We can already feel a hint of fall in the air...the berries are ripe, and the fireweed is all bloomed out already (anyone who has lived in Alaska knows what that means...an early winter ) Im still in heavy-duty prep mode for my last big fair of the season...we set up on Wednesday, and the show begins on Thursday. My dogs are feeling/acting really "clingy". Im not sure why...maybe because they sensing my stress over the upcoming fair? This next couple of weeks are going to really suck for them, because I cant have them at my booth with me,(stupid Palmer Fair rule!) and Scott is working a food booth (for his Masonic Lodge), so they'll be alone a lot. |
Hummmm Met Too!!!
I have been on most of the time but very few have been here. I have been learning my new sewing machine. It is a little more involved than just sewing. I tried to embroider a sheppie. Got 3/4 done and the thread jammed!!!!. Way over my head!!!! Ofcourse I had to try one of the upgraded ones first. Today I am taking in a few pair of jeans. Even though I bought a skinny the legs and butt just hang I am just about finished painting the LR. And also going through totes that have been packed for more than 2 years. (all that is going) OUT!!!!. So I have been busy but always checked in here! |
I think we try to do too many things! I dont put the computer on until at least late morning or I get stuck and get nothing done.
My 2 dogs are fine. Summer is in a particularly "silly" mood. Stole her blanket out of her bed whilst Tilly was asleep on it and took it out the garden, came back without it! I said go and fetch that blanket, she trots out the garden and come back with a toy! I said no the blanket, she trots out again and stands just in the doorway with the blanket in her mouth. Doing a chase me chase me. She is as we speak trying to entice my son out the garden to play throw my ball! Tilly is fast asleep! ps son has given up and gone out the garden. Think he was fed up with the soggy ball being put in his lap! |

maybe allare busy with their sheepies wanting too much attention |
I find it amusing that some people managed to get summer this year
I do believe we had three summer days since April in NY. I am going in search of sun in Florida next month - Morgan even got a short hair cut this weekend in preperation for the trip. Now if I could just win Mega Milions and manage to stay there |
I've been sitting outside with a cup of coffee and enjoying the sun and nice breeze watching the ducks on the lake. My daughter and I are having a nice chat. Dogs are staring at us through the slidding doors enjoying the a/c. |
Ummm its the summer holidays here in the UK, kids do not go back until 4th September, phew six weeks seems like forever. Then its one mad panic to get new school uniforms argggggggghhhhhhhhhh.
Willow is 13months now, and loving and scatty as ever. She had her hips scored 2 weeks ago, so fingers crossed they come back good; will not know until another 4/5 weeks, so keeping fingers crossed. Hope everyone and their sheepies are well, happy and healthy. Debsx |
You're right Deb. Actually, I think it has been slow for months on here. I miss hearing about everyone and what they are doing. Anyone have any stories to tell???
I've kind of stopped posting, cause it seems no one cares. LOL. |

Yeah... a lot of posters I like and why I loved this place so much seem to not post anymore or as much. Kinda depressing. It's just not the same group anymore not that I don't enjoy many of the new people ...I just hate facebook, and all those other sites I don't use |

DITTO |
I thought things were slower but attributed it to your summer.
Please dont let it be facebook etc. I havent joined up or whatever it is you do either. DH did join facebook and I looked at his page and it sorta didnt make sense to me. There seemed to be all these random comments that werent connected. |

This is just is statement, not intended to make trouble, but I think some of the people who don't post anymore don't because they were having personal issues with some other members that were occurring on and of the forum. From there, it was a trickle down effect. Like Tom liked the stuff Dick had to say but Harry liked Dick so when Tom stopped posting, so did Dick and then Harry. But, that's not a huge issue but I think it does explain some of the missing people. That being said, it's been a busy summer and I think a lot of people are swamped! |
Hi all! this is my second try at a post! Lost the first one: I'm at work and multi-tasking as usual.
It's been very hot here all summer and with work, the garden and coping with the heat I've come home exhausted. Also, my brother was very ill with peritonitis and is now on the mend but that was a terrible worry. I'm going to visit him and his family at the end of this week. Work was a nightmare: in July we had a sewer back up, broken pipes, failed AC 4 times;the stove caught fire in the kitchen, the freezers stopped working, the dishwasher failed and the fire alarm kept going off. We couldn't shut it off and the ring kept getting more and more frantic as it went along! we've had the fire department up four times as well. We had to close the back hall due to the noise from the jackhammers tearing up the floor to get at the pipes. We had to send the cook home to get away from the noise. The staff complained the whole time the repairs were underway and we had a rude licensing inspector show up in the middle of all this, accusing us of not filing reports for incidents we hadn't had! I also committed to teaching every Friday in July on a counselling course so I was tryng to prepare the lectures in between all the mayhem. Willoughby was a great companion: chasing the hose in the garden, cuddling and being an extremely good boy. We also went to the dog park for the first time in July followed by walks along the river bank. There were some weekends when I just sat with no energy to do anything, even post! I kept up (just) from work as a stress buster. At any rate, I hope that things will be back to normal after labour day. |
And WE THOUGHT WE HAD IT ROUGH!!!!!!!!!!!! |
I've just been really busy this summer. This past weekend was a blast . Zachary had to go to the vet early Saturday because he has a yucky infection on his scrotum. He had to be knocked out for a clean and shave, has to wear a cone for 5 days. Drop him off at home and rush to work (very late), busy day so I can't leave early. Finally get home and the smell gags me, Rosco has diarrhea . It is everywhere and is starting to dry. Clean him up, check conehead, help Luke get up and on the deck. Then I realize I had taken my carpet machine in for repairs but the cost is almost as much as a new one. Run out and buy a new one, then spend several hours trying to clean up. Rosco wants out every half hour so no sleep, conehead is restless because of the cone. All day Sunday is trying to keep the floors and Rosco clean....impossible. Took Rosco to the vet this morning, he has an infection in his colon. Late Saturday night I realize I was supposed to be in Canada at a show Jonah was entered in, I had totally forgotten about it. Benny and Gabe are up north having fun so there is way to make it for Sunday. Now I'm off to try to remove the stains from the carpet.... |
In addition to personal vacations (holidays), Facebook and Youtube and all of the other available options to communuicate, I do feel that the slowness is most likely a direct result of the strife that occurred over the past several months. When things get out of control, hard feelings erupt and relationships forged over months or years can be ruined or abondoned, because some feel it just isn't worth the aggravation.
We need to think about having some community chats and make a little push towards more involvement after the US Labor Day holiday. Anyone want to help write an electronic email newsletter that I can send to our membership? Send me a PM. |

I've really enjoyed this forum since I joined a few years ago. Max had just been hurt, and I found such support. Felt like you really could make friends "virtually". It was a stress relief and fun and the end of a hard day to "sit down with friends" and chat. How do we fix it? |
I love the community chat idea!
As someone who "vanished" for awhile, and then came back (it was nothing to do with the forum...just a health related issue) I do have to say it was kinda hard to figure out where to "jump in" to many of the various conversations going on...sorta like jump rope! Everybody seemed a bit cranky at that time, and it was obvious that there had been some tension going on I wonder if starting more fairly lightweight, easy to add to threads might lure some of the folks lurking on the sidelines to jump back in? |
I think it is a combo of the crazy economy (I will not get into politics here) and just the lazy, hazy crazy days of summer. I have signed up for facebook...but it's certainly not warm and fuzzy like it is here. I love you all. When my life is crap, I can still come here and find friendship, kinship and the most wonderful welcoming feeling. Since May, I have been struggling with this @#%%$^ lap top I bought, which makes posting difficult. I hope to overcome this and learn this blasted thing. I have also been struggling with taking care of my step mom...a very elderly woman I don't like, but have found myself in charge of. I come here to realize, I am not a bitch. Thank you all. Tomorrow night...I plan to win the Mega Millions lottery and I will be quite wealthy...and have much more time to hang with you...instead of working 2 jobs. Yes, joke...but hoping it will happen! |
I enjoy the forum and the people who post. I was absent for awhile but it really did not have anything to do with the forum--just life! I visit at the end of the day--don't often get to get on during the day.
I am excited as I have redecorated my office--it is now a 'sheepie' office! Getting ready to post pictures in the picture section--would love your thoughts! |
I love my oes.org...... I don't know what has happened??? Hope I am no part of it! I personally have just been busier...we have another senior rescue coming in tomorrow! Marty just took two to Florida so, my absence is rescue related! SORRY! Love you guys! |
I canned tomatoes today with my mom. Then starting tomorrow for the next couple of weeks our house is going to be torn apart to fix structural issues along with getting a new roof. Woohoo. I'm gonna sleep over at my sisters. My husband is going to stay at the house and sleep on the couch while keeping the dogs company and making sure no one steals anything while the house is ripped open. The one drama going on with my two bother-in-laws got settled while we have a new *cuckoo* drama going on with Lee's parents. My chickens are going to start laying in about month, our garden is going crazy, Aggie is going to start dog classes soon, Edgar is in love with eating random poop around the property or trying to roll in it, and I think that is about it with me. |

Yes, joke...but hoping it will happen! Sorry..............but that lottery is earmarked to be won by all of us where I work! I've been doing a lot of reading on the forum this summer. Just not as much posting for a couple of reasons. 1st, I wasn't able to do much typing there for awhile due to having rotator cuff surgery. 2nd, I didn't have much to post about since I couldn't go anywhere or do anything, especially dog related! So my summer of napping, physical therapy, reading & having to rely on others to drive me anywhere, even to work, just wasn't very interesting! I do have to admit, I sorta enjoyed the "slow down" in my regular lifestyle. But all of that is changing now! The dr. gave me the green light to start driving again & the 2nd phase of therapy! Good thing too because things are starting to bubble here schedulewise! I can now get back to weekly obedience classes with José. And Olivia (remember her? WhatdoyoumeanIneedtokeep4feetonthefloorfor5minutesOlivia) came into season & I am in the process of running to the vet with her for progesterone testing amongst physical therapy appts., work & all my other regularly scheduled chores! And now that I can type more easily again, maye I'll have some interesting things to post about. |
I haven't posted much lately because my life is so boring and nothing is happening. I will admit that it's a different group here than a few years ago but that doesn't make it bad. I enjoy new people coming aboard and hope they find oes.org to be the friendly educational place that I did all those years ago.
That said, the bursitis in my knees flared up yesterday and I'm crabby. |

I wil never forget the warmth I got when my baby Fergie died in my arms. It took me a long time to let her go. You all are family! I love to share with you. Love Mrs. J's cooking and pics. I have them in a book. The pictures make me laugh!!! So many have so much to share. Love reading it all. Please Please don't leave anyone and for the few who have left COME BACK!!!!!!!!!!!!! |
I wasn't here all weekend because Todd and I left for WI Thursday for our annual fundraiser for the basset rescue.
Bassetfest is Basset Buddies Rescue's biggest fundraiser. We rely heavily on the money raised to support the rescue for the upcoming year. Just vet bills alone last year totalled over $74,000!! We drove out Thursday and camped with our new tent. Rain on Thursday and part of Friday was a bit of an inconvenience. Thankfully just spotty rain, nothing that wrecked the whole day. The new tent rocked!! It is a large cabin style tent, with a ceiling over 6 feet tall. Sets up in about 15 minutes too - and will be faster now that we have done it once. Saturday and Sunday were perfect days for the event - temps in the 70's. Everyone had a great time. I will post pics later - I still need to download them off my camera. Chewie came with, and we had a private agility lesson on Friday with Sue, who hosted the OES agility seminar we had this spring. Got lots of new stuff to work on. (No lessons yet.....long story....instructor had back surgery..) So getting feedback was very helpful. Then Chewie went to "Camp Kristine" to hang out with the family, for the basset event doesn't allow non- bassets. (Thanks Kristine, again!) We also came back with a new foster basset named Harley. Poor Harley. He got relinquished by his family on Saturday d/t home foreclosure. Harley is 11 years old and they had him since he was a puppy. Harley is a bit in shock, but seems to be coming back as of last night. Still not eating, and he had diarrhea yesterday. Poor guy. He came with his crate, blankies and all his shot records from his entire life. They were just not UTD for this year - assuming the money issue prevented that. Harley actually looks a LOT like Simon, and I will post pictures of him later too. Then, Monday I met with Stephanie and Winston & Paislee (sneakysheepie) for a day to have the dogs play at The Paw, exchange stuff we had ordered from Petedge and shop for show clothes for Stephanie. She and Paislee are making their debut into the show world in a couple weeks!!!! We had a good time, great weather. Today it's back to work. OK too, because it's raining like crazy. Our power even went off in the night.. |
I have to say that I love coming here, there is always such great advice about our sheepies. I love hearing all the stories about what the sheepies and the two legged's are up to. Jo's recipes and pictures should be in a cookbook.
The summer is always a busy time for me because I commute back and forth from our beach house. Jenny is such a beach bum! My daughter is getting married next month and that is something else that is keeping me really busy. I never realized how stressful planning a wedding can be when it is supposed to be such a joyous occasion. I also think that in the summer people tend to get away from normal routines and maybe that is why it seems quiet around here. |

I'll try it, today they are working on something together so I have some time |
Oops I missed this thread! I'm quiet because I'm still job hunting, but pop in whenever I can because you guys always cheer me up. My laptop charger exploded AGAIN (I've been through 2 in the last 6 weeks) so I'm using Greg's. Our internet seems to be 'jumping', well, stopping for 5 seconds every 20 seconds and it's driving me mental, I can't scroll, type or watch anything without it all stopping then skipping!!! Which is a bummer because we don't have a TV
I will be back to posting exciting things and pics as soon as something interesting happens I feel I could and want to, be putting more effort in. I love everyone here and I'm sure things will pick up again soon, once the summer is over. Facebook has also been very quiet, although I'm trying to be on there LESS as it's much less wholesome than here |
I have been busy working on calendar photo selections, and the show dog calendar drawings. Just haven't had the time...and there is facebook which pulls me in too. Sorry Ron. |
I've been busy with work. Hate when that gets in the way.
Plus, I've been getting a lot of info on Facebook from the people I might respond to on here, so I feel redundant responding basically the same in both places. It's a different 'feel' here lately. And even though I haven't posted much lately, I've felt a little less than cup of tea responses have been given out (to me and others) lately, so it makes me not want to post as much. |
Too bad this isn't Survivor. We could just vote for who stays or goes...
For The Record: I don't want anyone to go, just saying... I've definitely noticed my long-time favorites not posting as much (like BARNEY) which makes it not as fun. I understand why though. |
