I'm supposed to go out of town Thursday and have my roommate take care of him. I'm worried what will happen if I can't get to the vet tomorrow! Has anybody else seen a rash there before. I know he does have allergies because he bites/licks his paws sometimes but this just doesn't seem like an allergy problem. He scratches these spots so much that they're starting to scab. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated!!! |

We have a Baxter too and he too once broke out with a rash under his arms and on his stomach. It was really red and wicked looking but he did not seem too bothered which surprised me.
The vet did not prescribe any medication because he wasn't scratching or licking. He suggested that it might be a food change that had caused it. We had recently changed the food. I used powder on the area to keep it dry and we immediately changed food and he began to clear up. He has had a couple of flare ups but none as bad as the first one. The groomer is careful not to change products and we don't change food. |
It could be allergies, but I would definitely get Baxter back to see the vet. The rash could be a bacterial infection that has set in where he's been scratching, or if it is just allergies, he might need Benadryl.

this hasn't happened to my sheepie but has happened with other dogs I have had.... when they got wet and no one dried them off... under the arms/armpit area especially. I was always told if long hairs got wet they needed to be dried otherwise rash can occur.... always seems to happen when they're at the babysitters tho.... |
