HeartGuard Question

This may be a silly question but I looked up HeartGuard on the internet and it said it was by prescription only from a vet. I see it in Wal-Mart. Is it the same thing?

Really, no one has an answer?? No one?
What did you see in Wal Mart???
If it is really Heartgard it needs to be reported!
Was it in the doggie aisle??
Although it is safe for heartworm positive dogs it should not be
going over coutner that easily!!

Guest...do you have an answer???
Are you sure you aren't confusing it with Frontline? I know some people get the names (not the actual products themselves) mixed up. Frontline (for flea & tick control) can be sold over the counter.
I havent responded as I'm in Australia and laws will be different.
But you can by Heartgard on line and in some pet stores here in Victoria.
They come with a written warning on line about allergic responses and testing if its more than 6 months since its been used and the staff in the pet store are meant to ask customers before they sell it.
So it may depend on different country's laws.
Yes, it was in the dog supply isle. I have Front line for my dogs and no I am sure it is HeartGuard. I am looking at it right now. It not supposed to be there I take it? It has been there for several years. Is it a rip off? Who do I report it to??
How much is it there at the Walmart?? Maybe you shouldn't report it & stock up.. :lmt:
This may seem like a silly question, but it is it spelled HeartGuard or HeartGard? The real HeartGard is spelled as such. I wonder if they're selling some generic?
Even when you buy it online, you have to have a vet to approve it (they fax your info to vet). ...at least the reputable sites I've seen.
Walmart's ad that came today has an item called Pet Trust Plus for Dogs, that has the same active ingredients as Heartgard Plus. In Indiana, it says that it starts at $20 for 6 count. "Available in the Walmart Pharmacy by Vet Prescription Only."
Yes and no. Ivermectin is the active ingredient. What will vary is the % active ingredient (and remember the "collie" issue and Ivermectin.......some Collie breeds are very senstitive to it.....including OES) and the "fillers" that is the carrier, flavor, texture, etc.

The generics don't have the good taste so I guarantee mine would spit them right out, it's hard enough to get them to take the falvored. So read and compare carefully.
I had my dogs tested and they both tested positive for that mutation gene and cannot take the ivertimicin (spelling)...Both dogs are OES. We used to sue Interceptor and since that has been unavailable here, I went to something called Sentinel.

I don't know who you would report that to?
You MUST get your dogs tested at the Vet...get a prescription from the Vet...(just like people medicine) and take it to Walmart..They'll fill it there.
It is HALF the cost of Heart Guard.
