I did a search, and lots of you have recommended lots of books, and it was tough for me to sort out from them all which might be best for us right now, so I thought I would start a new thread and ask directly. So, any recommendations? Thanks! |

yikes! 4 days, 34 views, and not a single response? Does no one have even one book recommendation? |
Honestly I don't know a good puppy book. The best thing to do is to find a good trainer - before you get the puppy would be ideal (not that that is how I ever did it ) |
i had several books that I liked alot! One of the best ones I found, for overall Puppy stuff was (and don't laugh) Puppies for Dummies.
But most of my books were about raising puppies, what to expect and behavioral stuff. I didn't buy training books, but went in for Puppy classes and then did one on one training with a great trainer. |
Sorry I went to puppy kinder and straight on to obedience training.
Anything else I called Tiggy's breeder or came here, there's so much sheepie specific advice. I find it often beats general advice. |
I tried to think of a good training book to recommend to you--but I didn't use books--We went to obedience classes and then used a trainer.
I honestly think that if you will read through sections of interest on this forum you will find more accurate and hands-on advice than you will ever find in a book. Just my opinion--I have learned far more here than I could find in a book or DVD. |
I love and rely on My Smart Puppy by Brian Kilcommons and Sarah Wilson. The book has exercises that make training really fun. Sarah runs a great forum for discussing training and behavior questions too. |
I have to agree with Darth Snuggle - Puppies for Dummies had lots of great general puppy info which I found very helpful in addition to the puppy & obedience classes we took. |
