Pulled muscle?

So one minute we are all sitting on the porch with a cool drink and the next minute both dogs go running like the wind after a bicycle rider. Two seconds later the younger one ( turning 1 year Sunday  ) comes back limping with her back leg in the air.

Examined paws, no bleeding, nothing stuck. I was able to touch it and flex without any crying or obvious pain. No swelling. She was ready to run again in about five moinutes but I brought her in to rest the leg.

Do dogs get pulled muscles in their legs? She rested the rest of the night and walked okay in the morning. Afternoon she ran and was limping a bit so no more running for her. This morning again, slight limp and wants to play but I am confining her to the kitchen and no running.

We ahve a vet appointment for Thursday. Think I should move the appointment up?

YES dogs do get pulled muscles, torn muscles, torn ligaments and pretty much anything any mammal will get.

If its your regular vet I doubt mving up the appointment will do anything - if for some reason its with and ortho vet, or sports vet you could try.

I have spent the beter part of the summer doing therapy with my three year old agility and herding dog because she tore a bicep, after pulling a cruciate in February.

Rest, icing, anti inflammatories (from the vet) and rehab with an older dog. with a puppy - maybe rest and rehab alone. Oh and my rehab therapist would remind me I am negligent in not mentioning massage and swim therapy.
Swim therapy? Do they actually ahve doggy therapy pplaces like that? I never had to use one and hoepfully I never will but nice to know they're there!

I did call my regular vet. We did not move up the appointment. It's Thursday morning. But he told me to give her one 325 coated aspirin a day...And rest. Puppy rest? yeah right

By the way Kerry, I love your signature line!!! Is that an original???

(No its from a book.)

And yes this is where we go to swim therapy (unlike hydrotherapy which is walking in water - I think) http://www.fittercritters.org/
The facility where I teach my classes has a dog pool for swimming therapy (and fun too) and an underwater treadmill.
Both are very good for rehabing injuries, weight loss, increasing muscle tone and cardiovascular excercise.
