Tonks has been like this since we got her at 8 weeks old. The vet says its not true incontinence; Tonks will go weeks and even months without it happening. So my vet is hesitant to put her on meds for it. I have noticed it happens when she's REALLY tired (like after a day of alot of exercise) or sometimes if I change her food.
I had read that corn silk powder can help; but try finding that. My local holistic pet store owner said her dog had a similar problem, and its related to a really mild urinary infection, and recommended a cranberry additive for their food. |
Is she spayed and if so what age was she done?
Intermittent incontinence is common with what they call early spay incontinence. Very high rates for that in OES girls done under 12 months of age. Not continual leaks just every so often especially if they are relaxed they can dribble or in a heavy sleep when awake a wet patch from the dribbles. Has she also been checked by the vet for a mild UTI? That is has the vet tested a Urine Sample from her.? Hormone medication can sometimes help sheepie girls incontinence issues to stabilise it and give her more controll when she is unaware of it while asleep etc. Sometimes if mild enough, just a short course to help the problem and not on it forever. |
What about a dog like Tonks; who has had this problem since before her spay? Also; it didn't get worse with her spay (which I feared it would, and my vet warned me it might). |
Dutch who was spayed at 6 moinths ( she will be 3 in October )had incontinence issues and the Vet put her on Propalin at 3 x daily around April saying that she might have to stay on it or maybe she will be able to have lower doses or even quit taking it . I have slowly decreased her dose to once a week and so far we have had no other occurences and I will try taking her off of it in another month to see what happens and if it comes back I will just start weekly again . |
