3-4 chicken breast halves 2T butter tablespoons butter 2 cans of cream of chicken soup or (1mushroom/1chicken) 1 can low sodium chicken broth optional onion seasoning for chicken (i put lots of mrs. dash) 1 can veggies (i used peas & carrots) or 2C of anything really 1 package of refrigerated biscuits (kind in a tube) ...generic kind tastes like crap for this imho, so go with phillsbury grand biscuits!! put chicken in crockpot and throw your seasoning on it. then throw in butter, soup, broth, and onion. set crockpot on high for 3 hrs. if you're at work, i'd set it on LOW. last 1.5-2 hrs, tear biscuits in pieces and into crockpot. push them in a bit so they get soaked. MUST have on high for it to cook right. last 30 min, i add veggies to warm up but i guess you can add them earlier. i don't want mush and mine always turn out perfect note: it's best to LEAVE this be and don't bother shredding chicken or opening. seals in moisture in chicken and if you really want to shred the chicken, you can do it right before eating. This is sooooo good, and the best part is they think you made the dumplings from scratch. bwahahaha... This is not imo one of those set your crockpot and go recipes unless it's just the chicken b/c the biscuits shouldn't go any longer b/c it sucks up all the liquid and will go dry. it's perfectly ready at 1.5-2 hrs. ETA: do not use salt as a seasoning. it has PLENTY, but that could just be my personal preference. |

You don't squish raw biscuit dough in there, do you? I cook them first, right? |
raw dough
it cooks when you set it on high for that 1.5-2hrs. |
Mrs.J is right about the bisqcuits. do not use store brand. they are awful.
I make something like this and I did the no no and had to toss the toppings. THIS IS A GOOD WAY WITH CHICEN. I also use legs and theighs. yumo |
I've never thought of using bicuits, always did it the old fashioned way with Bisquick |
Made this for dinner tonight and it was mmmm mmmm good! Another great recipe from Mrs J and sooo easy.
Thank you Mrs. J! |
^^
You always make me feel good. This is one of the FEW things my kids will eat. Who the heck doesn't like eating butter biscuits? |
Can I use frozen chicken breasts? If so, what's the time adjustment? Could I presumably toss all the stuff in, put it on low and leave it cooking all day from 9 to 5 and just toss the biscuits in when I get home? I would hate to throw it all in in the morning and look forward to eating it all day only to find I had overcooked it or something. It would be a sad homecoming. |
Yes, you can use completely frozen and keeping it on low all day would work out just fine. Just personally if I had the time to add the biscuits when I got home, that would also be the time I'd add the can of veggies. Be sure to spoon a little sauce over the biscuits that you've tore up in small chunks and don't disturb it after that until done. |
I made this and it was super good. Even James liked it and he usually doesn't like gravy-ish things.
The dogs were home all day smelling the crockpot and were sooooo interested in what was coming out of it! |
This looks good.
Can I ask a dumb question. Chicken breast halves. When you get a general pack of boneless, skinless chicken breasts from the store, each breast is a half, right? Like the ones that come 4 to a pack? A full breast looks like a butterfly? |
yep to the halves! |
Oh this sounds really good. I'll have to try it - and soon! Can I use the frozen dumplins that you get in the freezer section? Or does it need to be biscuits? |
