Three Weeks Until She Leaves For College

Sniff, Sniff, Cry, Cry. My daughter is off to The University of Arizona on August 21. Still have son at home (Senior in High School). He'll probably get sick of me hanging with him. Hubby and I are driving down with the truck and she is driving her new car down alone. We'll be spending the weekend at the AFB in Tucson while she gets settled in.

Trust me, she has a car and only two hours away, you'll be seeing a lot of her. Midweek will be lonely, but I suspect many weekends she'll be home, doing laundry or just enjoying some home cooking.
I'm sad for you, but happy for her. After all, we raise them with the goal of becoming independent.

My kids didn't come home very often their freshman year. During the freshman orientation, it was explained to them that they were welcome to go home if they chose, but they needed to realize that they will be missing a huge part of the social experience.
The girl on my daughter's floor who went home every weekend to see her boyfriend has very few friends left from her freshman year. The rest of the girls stil talk and see each other at least once a month (they got their bachelors last year, most are working on their Masters).

I missed her at the time, but it was wonderful to see her so happy in college.
My daughter Lisa that went 2 hrs away to college didn't drive home that often. However, we did (and still do 5 yrs later) talk and email pretty much daily, or sometimes more! After 2 yrs she moved to NY to finish college. Now she just moved back home and is almost done w/ her masters.

I didn't cry - I was happy to see my kids reach milestones as confident young people. I was even proud when they went to kindergarten! and enjoyed all the new experiences. :D
We'll wave at you from our house, its only an hour away, maybe slightly more. We live on post at Fort Huachuca......so wave back, lol! :D
i have only 3 words to say...

BEAR DOWN, ARIZONA!

ps...youll be fine!!!! kids are like boomarang's...they always come back 8)
It's so hard letting them go..... I feel for you.... :ghug: At least she's within driving distance to see each other, definitely a bonus :)
I'm sorry as I remember how sad my mom was. But I agree, it's still a huge accomplishment.

I was an hr and 45 min away and I never came home either  ...which doesn't help Mony & Laci's Mommy, BUT at least you'll know it's normal if she doesn't. I rather call and I totally love seeing my mom and taking everything in their closets.
I was sad when my girls moved out...but now? Oh, how I love the peace & Quiet!
Been there, done that, bought the crying towel! It really bothered me when Spencer left for college, since he was the oldest and I had no idea what to expect. Cried half the way home. Cried a little when Sarah went to college, but since I already knew what to expect, it wasn't quite as traumatic. Glad to be done with it, though!
I still hate this time of the year, and my youngest graduated graduate school last year :(
