We talked to the vet as we were considering Hills i/d prescription diet. The vet said yes, Hills i/d is one that may help, but high fiber would help and trial and error for food (she recommended 3 days of rice only, then slowly put kibble in, see how it works, rinse and repeat if necessary with a different food until we find one that she firms up with). I'm not sure if we should be going by crude fiber in food - which seems all a lot of the brands I'm looking at list, or total dietary fiber. Or if it matters. I have been thinking if she's sensitive to something in the food, maybe we should start off with something like Wellness Simple - that does not have a lot of allergens, and then supplementing fiber as I have heard people rave about canned pumpkin, green beans or even suggest metamucil. Just wondering if anyone has tried the Wellness Simple or had good experiences with a similar food/supplementing or high fiber food they'd care to recommend. Thanks! |

Before you drive yourself crazy with trying different foods, get an allergy test done for your little sweetie. Could be your little cutie is allergic to a whole host of things. That way you can zero in on better foods, armed with info. |
Ditto.
If it has been going on for awhile you need to work out what the trigger is in her diet if the vet suspects that and not IBS. You probably need to take her back to a real basic diet preferably something she has not had before in a dry like Fish and Potato or venison, turkey and barley something she has not had in either grains or protein and take it from there, firstly keeping it basic till the stools firm up then progressing over time with introducing one thing at a time into the diet till you can work out what the trigger is. I would also not give her rice at the moment and look for a grain she has not had before like Barley or Oats Eagle Pack Hololistic dry has the above varieties even Duck and Oats to maybe start back at basics to work out what triggers her. |
