She is not balding...she's just crazy shedding!!! We use a slicker brush on her. Is it because it's summer? I don't remember this much shedding past years. Any suggestions to get ahead of this? My house looks like it has tumbleweeds! |

Shave her?
Maybe the weird weather is affecting more than my poor pepper plants? As for the shedding, you can give her a bath and then visit say a friend north of the border with a big power dryer, take a grooming table outside and blow as much of the dead coat out as you possibly can. Kristine |
My BC-mix and Schipperke-mix shed heavily.
About every 3 months, I use an Oster rake to strip their coats. I think it might be the coarse one. Not sure if it's the right thing to do but it helps to cut down on hair found on the floor. http://www.petedge.com/Oster-Pet-Groomi ... -OS790.pro Quote: Shave her?
I did that to mine last summer. It's not a very hot summer here so I haven't done it this year. http://oesusa.com/Page144.jpg |

Kristine I would love to do that, however, Keira is agoraphobic and doesn't like to leave her home. No, really.............. |
You could also try a fish oil/omega supplement?
When I was little and my goldens were shedding a lot my grandparents put oil and egg on their food... not sure if it made a different or not. |
My friends with Samoyeds are experiencing the same problem right now. Hair everywhere,, and coming out in big clumps.
Their MN specialty show is in August - they are sure they will all be BALD by then! |

Harry is part BC and yes, he can get messy. I'm just using the slicker and pin brush. Fortunately on these guys legs are not much of an issue, mainly body and especially the pants.
Remember to spritz before brushing....or maybe it's humid enough there not the create a giant dry-air shock from all the static electricity. Yes, I've tried one of those new fangled brushes on him, can't think if name, not impressed. Obviously they do nothing on sheepdogs. Don't forget baths to help eliminate the hair, just protect the drains. Use a nice conditioner afterwards. |

We were with them at rally class last night and we talked about it a bit. I see Linda this evening - we have our classes. I will ask her if it is worse than normal. |
Someone once suggested to a collie owning firined who was having this problem to bath the dog in ivory dish soap and it would force her to blow her coat at once and get the shedding over with. He said it worked. |
Jaci, is that like the Furminator?
I failed the Furminator - it just cut my cat's fur. Deb, I use a rake and a comb on my Golden. We get a huge pile of fur, mostly undercoat, off of him every Spring and during the Summer. I've also noticed that he really sheds after a bath. |

That's it, Furminator!! Naw, not worth it even on Harry. Several of the grooming shops offer special grooming for shedding dogs. Between the double bathing, brushing, vacuum brushing and blow drying, they came away with far less hair. |

No, the teeth are no where near as close together. I have a Furminator too but I think the rake does a better job on my dogs. This is my old Oster rake- http://oesusa.com/OsterRake.jpg The ends of the teeth are curved... it drags deeper through the coat to remove the dead hair. It comes in 3 sizes. |
Deb - I talked to Linda last night at class and she said the white boys are having a normal shedding season this summer. Lots of hair, but normal for them.
She is just feeling frustrated, as their specialty show is next month. A pretty lousy time of year (a normal year anyway) as it is usually our hottest month and it is an outdoor show. The big show people are the only ones with dogs in coat - they keeped them parking in the AC and don't take them out in the summer heat. |
