Everyday is a holiday right????
I guess I like Halloween and Thanksgiving! Festive no pressures of gifts!! (some candy for the kids...) I love the feel of Christmas but, too much shoping in involved1 |
Hmmm, I don't know about me, but Jill likes Festivus.
Mine used to be Thanksgiving until my sister ruined it. Now perhaps Independence Day. But truthfully, they're all pretty much just another day now. |
I love the Christmas Season, especially if there are kids in the family !!! A white Christmas feels so magical....
and Easter, because it is the beginning of spring!!! |
I just can't see how Christmas isn't the bestest holiday ever! I love the food, the gifts, the gift giving, the music (even if you hear it from AUGUST-DEC), the classic movies, family together, have to mention the birth of Christ and the typical activities that surround it at church, and of course ...the time off work! All other holidays are too short.
I always tell Mr. J that they should make a halloween out of Christmas too. I mean, the act of giving, eating lots of sweets, and dressing up around the neighborhood since people decorate as much, if not more, than they do in Oct. That would be fun. |
My favorite holiday is Halloween....we love the dressing ups and the decorating and the Trick or Treating. A close second is Christmas because of the holiday Spirit that runs for about 6 weeks...also my Birthday is 3 days before Christmas so adds an extra special touch. I also enjoy the decorating which seems to be a theme with me. |
Without a doubt, my favorite is Thanksgiving. It's all about family, getting together and loving each other. I hate the "gift" holidays. All of them. They have all gotten so commercial. Yep....I'll take Thanksgiving anyday!!!! |
Ah I hear holiday and think, plane, sun, sea, sand ....sangria !!!
So my favourite Bank Holiday is Easter, as we get Good Friday and Easter Monday off, plus I always book the Thursday and Tuesday and to top it all off, lots and lots of lovely Easter Eggs |
I was always a HUGE christmas fan, decorated the house to the nines, advent calendars with special gifts - youname it., Then I got a job where the busiest (and I mean 60 -75 hour weeks) was between Thanksgiving and Martin Luther King Day. I sort of lost the Christmas spirit.
New Years has never been a big holiday and in fact I often have worked on Nw Year's day, CHinese new years - hmm good food Halloween was a close second to Christmas until we moved into a neighborhood where no one decorates and no kids trick or treat. I also used to like Easter, with similar decorating urges - but now , like Thanksgiving it only means a lot of work planning and cooking and serving a meal. Fourth of July is fun - BBQ's fireworks, no gifts, but not as exciting as it was when I was younger and lived where there were big parades and such. Hmm running out of holidays here..... |
I've never been a fan of the 4th. For me, it always meant a short drive that takes FOREVER (never move in traffic) just to see GOOD fireworks, it was always butt hot, and I got a min. of 20 mosquito bites, and sunburn.
One of the few times I'm not excited about bringing food. Now you can add the annoying sound of the fireworks going off in your neighborhood late at night. I will say my kids absolutely love it!!! |
Holidays aren't really anything big for us - it is just the two of us and both of our families live far away. Now for Winston and Paislee - everyday is a holiday. |
Every day is a holiday now |
I have to go with Mrs. J on Christmas being the best
Ive always loved the fact that it brings out the creativity in people...even some who almost never do anything creative at any other time. Decorating, baking, making gifts and ornaments. I also love the history and the variety of celebrations for different cultures, and even just different families. Any holiday involving fireworks gets a thumbs down from me... My dogs hate them We have a local holiday here that I adored as a kid, called Fur Rondy. Its based on the old time tradition of trappers etc. coming in to town to do trading, and involves sled dog racing and weight pulling, native sporting events, an ice carving competition, lots of arts and crafts (especially from the villages), and a huge carnival and parade. It goes for 2 weeks, and when I was a kid, the schools gave us a Friday off for the big dog-race start. Sadly, it has really petered out in recent years...I keep hoping for a revival! |
When my kids were little, we had our own Cramer family holiday. It was called (don't laugh) Outside Sunday. It was always the 3rd Sunday in April. My son's birthday is in October, and my daughter's is in March. It started because we moved into our first house and we wanted to get a swingset, Little Tikes turtle sandbox and playhouse. But we didn't want the kids to think they just got good stuff for no reason, so we had Outside Sunday. We bbq'd hot dogs and hamburgers and made a big springtime celebration. We continued to do this for many years. But after the initial year, they just stuff like bubbles, balls, whiffle bats, etc. When Alan and I divorced Outside Sunday stopped. I think I really miss it. And the kids still talk about it. It was OUR special holiday. |
I like the Christmas season the best (but not necessarily Christmas Day the best). I love the decorations, the carols, and everyone being in a good mood (cuz Santa knows where you live!). And I keep my decorations up until sometime in February. Thanksgiving used to be my favorite holiday because it was a day devoted to eating. |

I looooove Thanksgiving because of the food (even after I stopped eating meat, still love me some Tofurkey!) I am the queen of Thanksgiving leftovers. Plus I like being with the family and watching football.
My favorite has to be Christmas though. My parents have always made it really special for us, always decorating the house, getting a big tree, and spoiling us like crazy with gifts. It's a bit different with Dave in the picture as we are scrambling to see all our family, which makes it stressful...but I still love it. Plus I love the forum christmas cards!! |
I would have to say my favorite holiday would be Halloween.....It's the one day of the year you can dress up and be something else and no one will judge you....You get to see happy kids that remind you of yourself when you were little eager to get candy......I'm a big horror movie buff and a huge Tim Burton fan so naturally I love to decorate the whole house and property out front!!!! When I get out my "trick or treat" & "harvest" yankee candles I know it's my favorite time of year!!!
I still love Christmas and Thanksgiving, but not all of the family can get together and it makes me reallllly sad....... |
Love love love Halloween!
So much that I am already starting with the ideas for this year. I don't really decorate outside much, but inside we go wild. I have a huge number of paper bats I've made over the years and we hang them in our archways like they are in a cave. Ghosts on the mirrors, lights and of course carved pumpkins, spiders large and small. Last year we made a haunted house with boxes and paper tubes that I lit from the inside. Looked kinda cool through the front window. I have gone hog wild with the costumes ever since my older son was born. The making of the costume and the other decorations just makes me so happy. Before we moved everyone would always say, "If there is paint in the Morgret's grass it must be Halloween". I am working on some new tombstones to put outside this year, as well as a large black spooky tree. Oh man I have more ambition right now than time! Funny thing is I never gave Halloween much though before my son came along. Shellie |
new years eve party party, the beginning of a new year a new start. I always think of one thing I would like to try iv,e never tried before do a course white water raft anything. |
Any holiday where there are gifts involved is my favorite. |
I'm like a few others - I love Thanksgiving, partly because it is on or near my birthday.
It also is most of my favorite foods |
I like the traditional holidays, and as a person that does not have children you might be surprised to hear that this time of the year I am very happy to party to the start of the school year. The museum does kids activities all summer, we have done very well this summer. Therefore I am living on the edge of over load. I am looking forward to quiet for a few days. |
I love the Christmas season--the whole month between Thanksgiving and Christmas! I love the food-- decorating--the preparation --the secrets--and selecting that perfect 'gift'! It is just a wonderful time of the year--busy--but wonderful!
Halloween is pretty special around our house too--my son was born on Halloween so we always have a party!! The first four years of his life he thought the whole world celebrated his birthday by dressing up and going out to trick-or-treat! I guess the fun always begins on Halloween and lasts until the end of December--then New Years--NOT my favorite! I have never enjoyed New Years Day! |
