gardening revisited

Many thanks to those of you who offered tomato suggestions. I have a nice mix including a couple of popular heirlooms and it looks promising. Now, my pepper plants on the other hand...remind me to consult more closely before I plant next year

Mind you, we've had a really cool summer.

I just ordered some garlic from a Wisconsin grower. I used to grow some in upstate NY, given to me from an Italian-American friend whose ancestors had brought some over from the old country and it was wonderful. I left it with my mom who didn't keep it up, so I needed to start over and wasn't sure if I can grow it here in Wisconsin, but there's someone who specializes in garlic semi-locally so the varieties have been tested here. Very excited even though I won't be harvesting any till next year.

Anyone else's garden in full swing? Or as late as mine?

At first I thought it was just because I got a late start, but I think it's at least as much due to it being so chilly (of course, now I've probably cursed myself - my dogs have NOT been complaining) It's been cool enough that my romaine hasn't even bolted yet. But warm enough my radishes are looking a bit funky. Just an odd summer overall.

My tomatoes are very slow this year. I have a ton of tiny green ones. My green peppers are a bit better.

My basil was attacked by some sort of beetle, and seems to be shot for the year. My dill and cilantro went directly to seed...I hardly got any.

I think it is our crazy midwest summer.
debits just not you. we have had very cool wet weather too. way below our norm.
Things are just a tad better in the "Garden" State here in NJ. Poor weather did have an effect on my peppers, but the Cucs, Zucs and tomatoes are doing well.
I guess you guys don't want to hear about Tammy's garden then. :D

I do! I'm happy to live vicariously :D

Deb, my dill went directly to seed as well. I started the cilantro from seed and it fared a bit better. I stagger planting and the first plantings are just starting to go to seed but I have more coming along and need to plant some more ASAP. Thanks for the reminder.

My cucumbers are just starting to take off. Should be interesting. I'm also growing tomatillos for the first time. Fun.

Yesterday I discovered I DO have baby zucchinis growing! Woo Hoo! I'm thrilled!
Jeez! All this talk about gardening makes me envious! I used to plant a big garden when I was a stay at home Mom. Since I've been working full-time now for well over 20 years, my gardening has dwindled to my flower beds. I do enjoy that. This summer tho' my flower beds are even getting a bit neglected. Pretty hard to get up and down let alone pull weeds with my "non-dominant" hand. And don't make fun of the wardrobe and no make-up either! It's very limited for the next couple of months :(

In the meantime, I'll be looking forward to seeing some pictures of all of your garden produce as it ripens :D
Our garden is all dead after years of drought and water restrictions.

I'm now waiting to hear which doggie gets to your veggie patch first and you may need to sniff breaths to see who dug up the garlic later on

Wish I had a veggie garden, nothing taste nicer then home grown, I did have small tom thumb tomatos in pots, a complete disaster the sheepies got to them first :P :x  Also the herbs too like parsley, and basil to go with those missing tomatos   Must admit there breaths were all sweet after grazing on the Parsley
Ah, I do need to get some pictures. The best thing about Todd being laid off is the garden looks great!

Our stuff is slow. never got any peas. The green beans did real well, although we had poor germination d/t the hot dry weather at the time. Affected lots of them, actually. The vines especially.

The cukes are going crazy now - regular and burpless. Not good for me - I hate them...... :(
