Case in point - we are cat-sitting our daughter's cat while she's on vacation. Mora was a stray until Sarah rescued her last year and I don't know if she has residual memories of being tormented while she was on her own or what, but she's not a fan of other animals. Sam, on the other hand, wants to be friends with every thing and everybody. She tries to be friends with our strays, and they even let her get to within a foot of them, but if she gets any closer than that, then they turn and run. And Sam comes over to me whimpering as if to say, "Mommy, why won't they play with me?" So now I have a dog who wants to be friends with the visiting cat, and a cat who doesn't want to be friends. Last Friday night, Mora was sitting in Dale's desk chair in his office, just snoozing. She's a tortie, so her coat is dark and she was sitting in a black chair. The chair was pulled out from the desk a little, and was a bit turned away. I was watching TV in the spare room (across the hall from the office) and Sam came up from downstairs to find me. She went into the office, and as is her usual routine, she went to go under Dale's desk, not seeing Mora on the chair. As soon as she got too close, Mora hissed and scared the living daylights out of Sam! You know how you feel when someone comes around a corner at you? You jump back and your heart starts racing? Well, that's exactly what Sam did. She jumped back on all fours, head and "tail" went down, she turned and ran out of the office and into our bedroom. I went to our room to comfort her - looked for her on her bed and on our bed - no Sam. Looked a bit farther and saw that she ran into her crate and wouldn't come out! She never sleeps in her crate any more but whenever she's scared, it's the first place she goes. I sat in the chair by the crate and called her but she wouldn't budge. "Mommy, that mean old cat scared me!" Geesh! |

LOL! Hope you weren't looking for a body guard there. Next time she heads for the "bat cave" let her stay and work it out. Your trying to coax her out is playing into her fears. Let her work it out herself. (poor baby, but don't tell her I said that) |
Poor Sammie! I hope round 2 with Kitty goes better for her. |
That big 'ol meanies got claws you know???? |
The cats around here generally RULE! It is too funny to watch them put the 'big bad dogs' in their place! I tell them all the time that they are so lucky that the 'big bad dogs' are sheepies! |
Ahhhh poor Sam, bad cat, norty norty cat !!!
I'd run in Sam's crate too, cats scare the hell out of me !! |

This reminds me of our first OES named Nelson.....We lived in a townhouse. A bit small but we were moving soon. The front door only had a peep hole. Someone knocked on the door and Nelson went running full blast up the stairs. Then he peeked around the corner and did a very tiny tiny WOOF! Never laughed so hard.
Now we are on our 5th OES named Bailey...He is 6 months old and already 60#. What a sweetheart he is.... Karen |
Ah poor Sammie, I'd run to if a cat hissed at me , Dutch is a wimp when I take her out after dark she will sit as close to me as she can get and kinda peer around my leg to see if anything is coming |
LOL...poor thing!! |
