I am going to shave her I was holding off as long as I could but she is just miserable with this heat! She is doing much better with the baby Shi-tzu!! She still doesn't like to share her toys but loves taking the baby's toys!! O well it must be a sheepie thing I figure |

sounds like a really good buy price wise. Are you thinking of competing - or just doing this for activity? |
I think we will see how we both like it... but I would like to compete if we do! I have been trying to find a place close by and I accidently stumbled across this place it is about 45 min from where I live but I think Holly would love it!! I used to show horses so I love to compete so if Holly enjoys it we will definatly compete!!!
I am hoping this will build up her confidence ( after the fire she became very shy about certain things ) Plus I had gastric bypasss and I am hoping to get out there with the real world again!!! |
In that case this might be a good intro - but you should do some research, go to trials and ask who people train with (if you like their runs) and look for someone who is teaching by a method you like (you can research that in clean run).
Not that NY is anythng to go by, but I pay $120 for 6 weeks, $35 for a half hour private lesson, $65 for an hour and $25 for a half hour semi-private (two people). Have fun |

Have fun YIKES!!!!!!!! Ok, the private lesson prices are somewhat in the ballpark, but.... I pay $90/8 weeks. I'm also an associate member of the club (that's the way it's set up) and part of taking classes entails a requirement that I work at least 4 classes at one or more of the four agility trials we put on a year. If I work classes beyond that, I actually get club dollars which I can use towards paying for classes and things like that. Frankly, all clubs are different, but in my experience this one is incredibly generous. The instruction level is also top notch. Only took me seven years to find them and another six months on a waiting list to get one dog in a class, another year on top of that to get the other one in But well worth it. Anyway, Ravenbrook, I'm PM'ing you the e-mail address of an OES agility friend of mine in PA. She's also an AKC judge, not that it matters. She may be able to give you some hints in terms of what constitutes good training in your area, and is definitely a good person to know should you get bit by the agility bug. Be forewarned that she is the performance chair for the national specialty next year and I'm the agility chair. It's being held in the Rochester NY area, and if you show even a hint of interest in agility you may easily be co-opted to "volunteer" at the trial by one if not both of us Last I checked we're considering offering a fun match after the trial which would give dogs in training, but perhaps not quite trial ready to trial yet, a chance to play. Nothing definite on that yet. Hope the class works out for you Kristine |

Have fun YIKES!!!!!!!! Kristine Well how do you think I spend $100 a week on classes? Well not right now, now I spend $45 a week on physical therapy and $55 on classes. Welcome to NY |

$ 82.50/week for two obed classes, 2 herding lessons, 2 agility classes. And I need two more obedience classes since I have four dogs that should be in class. Mind you, this summer I've mostly only done agility and herding for various reasons. And that doesn't include run-thrus which can easily add another $20 a week when I'm religious about it. I've been such a slacker this summer. One of my obed instructors is on maternity leave - meaning she has a litter - so that sort of set me up to slack off. Tsk tsk. Theoretically I can do a lot more training on my own during the summer, but that entails not working overtime most days and being harrassed by skeeters 24/7 at the house. Sybil's rather confused by my recent heeling footwork which goes something like this on the halt: right step, left step, plant left foot, bring right foot half a step up to finish off the halt as dog glides effortlessly into a sit in heel position, tushie tucked, perfectly straight, head tilted adorably staring bewildered up at her handler who is standing there smacking herself to avoid the worst of the skeeter assaults And I wonder why that poor bitch is confused Kristine |
Well I didn't count herding and i only train one and a half dogs. I need a raise |
YOU GUYS HAVE ME EXCITED!! I hope Holly enjoys this it sounds like fun! |

And I wonder why that poor bitch is confused This poor bitch is confused too. I guess I am a visual person and need to see the footwork. The only thing I can relate to is the skeeters - I am the human du jour in my neck of the skeeter woods. |

Well, for starters (and I'm sorry about being a mobile skeeter feeder - damn I hate those suckers!) when you halt, how do you halt? I.e. how does Harry know, as you are halting, that this is what you're doing. Since you're a visual person I'll wait till you get home and try it out with him to remember what it is you do and then we'll talk Kristine |
