George's underbelly and feet are yellowish. I brush him all the time and he just went in for a professional bath on Friday. I look at all of your pictures, and your babies all look so white! Am I doing something wrong? I just want him to look clean. He plays outside all the time, and I know he gets dirty out there. What can I do? He is getting a hair cut on the 21st. HE IS YELLOW!!!!!!!!!! HELP! Amy |

It sounds like the hairs are stained. You can try and whiten them, but that won't really get them a real fresh white. If you part his hair to the skin, is the newer hair growing out white? It hasn't been that long that you have had him, so it may be too soon.
With his haircut, you should notice he looks whiter. As the old hairs grow out and get trimmed off; and you keep him clean, you will have your white boy! |
Is he peeing on himself, too? I try to keep a bottle of waterless shampoo handy to hit the bellies and/or feet with after a pee so it doesn't stink or stain. Boys can be messy. |
Wendel has the same staining on his feet. My breeder said it had something to do with a mineral that she had in her yard that caused the staining. I got Wendel from her over a month ago and the stain is pretty persistant. I'm going to just clip back a little at a time till it grows out. |
I think some of it could be urine around his pee-pee area. I do try to keep it clean down there...It's hard though.
I will get him some better shampoo, maybe that will work. His chest hair is tinted yellow too, so I just don't know. If I look to the hair that is growing in, it is stark white. I hope the hair cut works. I just want him to be cleaner looking. I clean him very often and brush him every night. I wonder if the minerals could be staining him...I should look into that. Thanks guys. Amy |
purple shampoo takes the yellow out. |
Oh the joys of Boys and hitting there legs & bellly coat while peeing. Sheepie girls are way so much neater
Purple shampoo takes the yellow out of the whites and also a good dry cleaning method is get some Johnsons Baby Corn Starch powder, sprinkle it on his belly and legs and brush out, takes the urine out of the coat and helps stop the pee pee stains. This dry cleaning method means you dont have to shampoo as much and also it smells really nice, better then a mens urinal smell My son was threatening to tie a urinal cake to Syds belly, Johnsons came to the rescue of mis-aim man, he smells good now!!. Even though he still squats and squirts everywhere. |
I use Bright Magic Dog Shampoo on the feet and face and belly, where he generally gets stained. It works wonderfully! There is no bleach, and its tearless, so safe to use on the head. I've never heard about the Johnsons Baby Corn Starch Powder for dry cleaning... I will definitely be trying that!!!
And I agree... BOYS are so messy! It seems like EVERY time after a bath Beemer pees all over his leg! Like he's trying to say "Haha Mom, I win" lol! |
Thanks again everyone. I am going this week to buy some new products to try out. He looks better, I am wondering if it had something to do with being up at the cabin last wknd. |
Looking at your photos on the other page, his yellowing is not typical.
Maybe the lake is discoloring him, kind of like cedar water staining white clothes... |
I thought your dog looked like a great pup in a loving home. They are dogs, they get dirty. And I have found it pretty easy to get neon whites from a dirty stained coat.
Try these products: EZ Groom's Whitener http://www.cherrybrook.com/index.cfm/a/catalog.prodshow/vid/451443/catid/406/vname/EZ_Groom_Crystal_White_Dog_Shampoo__Concentrated Follow the instructions on the label and don't forget to microwave the shampoo first. Always follow up with a great conditioner. Right now I am using the Pro Groom, but I have used a variety of products, including Isle of Dogs line. Here is the link for the Conditioner: http://www.cherrybrook.com/index.cfm/a/catalog.prodshow/vid/343137/catid/233/vname/ProLine_PRO_GRO_Conditioner But use whatever heavy conditioner you prefer. On some show days, when we don't have access/time to wash whites, we use a self rinsing whitener, massaged into the whites and then rinsed and towel dried. Here is a link for the product: http://www.cherrybrook.com/index.cfm/a/catalog.prodshow/vid/343231/catid/233/vname/ProLine_SELF_RINSE_PLUS_Shampoo This product can be left in, but I have found I get a cleaner white when I rinse it out after about 5 minutes. Then you add cornstarch to the damp area to absorb the moisture and add a bit of whitening effect, though the cornstarch should be blown completely out of the coat. Some folks will use this method on stubborn stains, daily for a week to ten days prior to shows. That might work on your dog, but on mine, I find the EZ Groom treatment once gets the whites just as bright. Since I am working at "growing coat" I wash all cornstarch and hair spray out of her coat within hours of showing. It isn't my inclination to leave cornstarch or other products in any dog's coat. I have also used the EZ Groom whitener 4 consecutive days for really white whites. Coats vary and fortunately my dog doesn't have sensitive skin. So I would experiment a bit with your pup. Btw, I have used Cherrybrook's link for products, but you can use PetEdge or Ryan's -or your local guy - or go to a dog show and pick up product there. Good luck - and oh how cute your puppy is! The baby and the puppy pics are darling! ~n |
