In working on training Katie with positive reinforcement and redirection Katie just gets so excited, and as many dogs do, she jumps up and paws and paws some more and is mostly patient in giving the cat space while staring curiously. Kobe is working hard to enforce the rules to Katie and it's actually very fun to watch! In all my years working at a humane society you just don't get to see dogs working together in that kind of environment...so it's new to me how intelligently they *can* interact. And really cool! And I never would have expected it out of Kobe. She is an intelligent dog, but in an intuitive sort of way. Katie tried to paw me yesterday with Kobe right there. Kobe's suddenly got her paw over Katie's, pushing it down with a little grumble. Katie tries to jump. Kobe nudges her down with another grumble. Katie is staring at the cat, who is in my lap (I had a beefstick...they all love me then) and a little ruffled since she's not sure of Katie yet. Katie starts to climb on to the couch and Kobe let out a sharp bark and nudges her paws off the couch. "Get down!" I just think it's cool, so I had to share. I love seeing other peoples' posts, like how Laika looks out for Langley, etc. It's funny how Kobe is totally sucking up...but it seems to be working for Katie. Lord knows it's not me she's listening to. Plus all this rule enforcing has Kobe even more well-behaved. My family came over last night and Katie didn't jump or paw once, and even sat nicely so my mom (who hates dogs) could pet her. She also didn't jump or paw with just us this morning...huge progress! It turns out our aloof Kobe is a shining example! Who knew? |

good going Kobe, they sirprise us all the time don't they.
sounds as if Katie is doing ok too. I wish I could teach my 3 not to paw at people coming in. I takes them about 15 min. to calm down |
Congrats to Kobe! I can just picture her doing those things from how you wrote them - WAY too cool! |
Is Kobe starting a training class anytime soon? I would like to send two of mine to learn proper greeting behavior - Ben behaves, but is too busy greeting to train the others. |
