Nail Polish Bubbles...HELP!

I have my nails manicured once a week. Lately, it seems to be chipping quicker than it used to, but that is not my question (unless you have an answer about that).

I didn't have them done Saturday because of the holiday, so I decided to do them myself. They looked great until they dried. Now they are all bubbly! UGH! I now remember, that is why I started having them done professionally.

Why can't I give myself a good-lookin' manicure? What causes the bubbles? I make sure my nails are clean, and then wipe them with alcohol (like my manicurist does). I have new, good quality polish (Esse), and I let them dry completely.

What am I doing wrong?

I've always been told that bubbles are caused by applying it on too thickly or adding layers before previous ones dry. We'll see what others say! That's going off my not so good memory!
That's what I've heard too Jo.

How I wish I could wear nail polish, but nothing lasts more than 3 or 4 days.
I had been told that bubbles occurred when you shook the nail polish to mix it and the bubbles in the liquid had not risen completely to the top.

You can try to shake the bottle and then tap the bottom on a surface to help push bubbles to the top before applying.
hmmmmmmm, makes sense.
That makes sense, about applying the 2nd coat before the first is dry, but how come the nail girls can apply it so fast? Or at least it seems like they put the 2nd coat on right away. Maybe their first coat is thinner. I've been having the bubble problem too

Yep...that's what I was wondering too. And the really shake the polish before they put it on...which I don't do, so I don't get bubbles (yea, right). And yes, they slap it on thick and fast. Never, ever get bubbles from them!
I don't get bubbles ever - either at the salon or home.
Mine are just pedi's though. I can't do fingernails for work - the nursing or the dog training/farm life. One is a job rule, the other is just too hard on them and they look like crap after one night. :( And a huge pet peeve is chippy or dull mani's so I would like it for only a day or 2.
I have no idea about nail polish, but when we decorated Greg couldn't work out why the paint he applied got bubbles & mine didnt, even in the same area with the same paint & tools. I worked the paint more slowly and firmly, so maybe thats the answer, be firm.
"GO ON RIGHT, WITH NO BUBBLES!!!!" (be firm, lol)
Thats funny right now my nails are bright blue (I never paint them).
My sister and her 2 girls were here from PA and they love to paint nails
I have NO EXPERIENCE in this, but perhaps you are fussing with the polish and they just lay it on in one stroke with the brush?
Nail Polish! who has time? :o

Friday I bathed 3 Sheepies, me and then helped my mom shower, Saturday my husband and I poured about 20 bags of concrete and Sunday we bought our glass mulch and planted about a dozen plants... Just the begining.... All of this and cooking but no laundry, much to my chagrin this morning when I had to get ready for work.... darn!

I long ago gave up on the nails, but recently started to wear makeup again... and on this old skin that was a chore to find one that didnt' accentuate the wrong things if you know what I mean...

Good thing I'm back at work where I can rest up for next weekend.... we are going to put in a low voltage lighting for our garden path.... and a drip irrigation system too.......
I have very unattractive hands. I learned years ago that people noticed the polish, not my hands. So I spend the money for manicures.

In my job, I am constantly washing my hands, so my nails tend to be weaker. I actually do overlays, acrylic painted over my nails, none of the fake tips because I manage to break them every time. I have found that my polish never chips, just rubs off on the tips. I usually go in every 2-3 weeks for "fills" and polish.

I bring my own polish, so I can do touchup if needed (very rare, usually if I try to push it back to 4 weeks  ). I store it in the fridge. They will thin the polish down as needed. Thick polish doesn't let the bubbles encape. They put on a base coat, 2-3 polish coats depending on the polish and a topcoat. The coats are so thin that when the polish rubs off the tips, you can't see layers of color.

The same thing happens with paint if its too thick. You need to thin the polish down a bit. A lot of nail salons put thinner in the polish, becuase the lids are off a lot the polish evaporates a bit and gets thick. Depending on the temperature the polish will be thicker or thinner too.
You do have to wait for it to be completely dry between coats and polish with thinner in it dries faster.
More coats of thin polish works better than less coats of thick.
Thin it a bit and stick it in the fridge for a half hour before
you polish. One stroke down the middle and one on each
side. If you do it quickly you will get the best finish.

yup, i agree....just add a small amount of nail polish remover to it, then chill....should go on better...

i have gel nails...overlay of gel on your real fingernail...it comes in color and clear.....i go every 3 weeks...but my nails always look great!
