Proud to announce the adoption of Zoe

I am proud to announce the adoption of my first OES. Zoe. She is the most wonderful five year old sheepdog. I am going to groom her and post her photo real soon. I have searched the world over trying to find her and she was but a block away. What a testimony. I prayed for her and God brought her right to my door. A lady around the corner had gotten a divorce she was having to work and leave Zoe alone. When I spotted her coming down the sidewalk I did the oooh and ahh thing. I told her I was on the waiting list at OES rescue. Then it just happened.

I have so many questions.

Do you all know how to get these dogs to get in the bathtub? She is making like Garfield. What is the best way to clean their ears and around their face. Any advice greatly appreciated.

I am going to try the tennis ball in the sock thing for a toy for her. Any more ideas for toys?? She is good with cats other dogs and kids. Can you believe it. Zoe is my personal miracle as what God can do when you just ask him.

Congratulations! Sometimes the right dogs have a way of finding us and when you meet them, you just know they were meant to be. Both of mine were like that. I've only had my OES, Clyde, for a month but I already couldn't imagine life without him. My other dog has really become attached to him too and she never liked other dogs until him.

Lol. I can't keep Clyde out of the tub. That's one problem we don't have! I think just because I didn't plan to show him, he really wants to be a show dog! Does she like to chew things? Check out this thread for toys-- a lot of people posted some good ideas: http://forum.oes.org/viewtopic.php?t=2520

By the way, Lorien's post made me wonder too: does anyone have a solution for the brown beard that our dogs seem to be sporting? It seems like regular shampoo has nothing on it!

I can't wait to see a picture, Lorien!
TUB??!! You gotta be kidding, LOL. My sheepies would rather die than take a bath......but can play in the water outside for hours.

Actually, gradually introduce them and make it a real soothing session for them..........tho your back will be killing you.

See if there's a doggie wash-a-teria in your area......a place that has all the equipment including a raised tub !!!! You schedule a time and wash your own dog.

As for tips on brown beards.......... http://www.atlantic.net/~bizboots
is Edy Dykstra-Blum's website and has good info on caring for Zoe.
A sheepie dropped to your door?? 8O What can be cooler than that?!?

Congratulations and Welcome!!!!

Sheepies are fond of balls and mine live to tug on things. Their favorite toys are the garbage can, the toilet paper and my slippers :? Maybe you should take your new doggie to a pet store and let her choose a toy.

Get ready for lots of sheepie adventures, post some pictures soon!
Congradulations!!!What a blessing.Well I really cant give any advice about getting a sheepie in the bath, since my doodles LOVES the tub. When my 8yr old is taking her tubby he is right there in her face trying to get in her nice warm tubby.LOL!! We literally have to throw him out of the bathroom and close the door AND lock it cuz he knows how to open EVERY door in this house.
As far as play toys anything is a toy for them,Mickey loves to fetch w/ anything especially sticks and small branches, but I try and not let him play w/ those.Ropes are great to play tug o war w/,and for them too chew.Any kind of ball as long as it is big enough she cant swallow.I have to agree w/ Danita take her to the pet store and let her pick it out :D LOL!!Youll probaly come home w/ 50lbs of treats instead of toys..hehe!!
Welcome to this forum, and congrads once again.
Thanks I am pleased to have her. I am on my way for woolite full strength for Zoes disclored beard. It was a two person job to get her in the tub Next time I am going to a doggie bath place. Thanks for the wonderful ideas. She does love balls and seems to prefer the football.
Thanks for all the wonderful tips.
She keeps trying to herd me when I go out the front door. Any suggestions to stop her from herding me in the directions she wants me to go?? LOL

We are going to take her to the farm this weekend. I am sure this will be a blast for photos.

Sheepie Hugs Lorien and Zoe
Congratulations on your new baby!
Herding you to the door? It's herding to the kitchen for cookies and dog beans (food) here. If the instinct is that strong, you might look around for herding trails ....... start with obedience training first as she must respond to commands........and then move on. Oh what fun!

She wants to herd everything including the 16 year old cat and she is having none of that. Poor Zoe the cat just doesnt want to play her game and has resorted to the shelf above the desk to avoid detection LOL
