By the way, I am so grateful that this community exists. Jackson is not only my first OES but is my hubby's first dog EVER and having this resource has helped prevent many a gray hair in our house (heavens knows that with Jack we have enough of those!! ) |

Winnie is now almost a year old
We found this book to be helpful, albeit not all inclusive. One advantage is that it is downloadable. (I don't know if the link will come thru as am still learning how to do that on this site. If it doesn't, just copy and paste.) http://www.yourpurebredpuppy.com/ebooks/TYD.html Another book that many on this site swear by is "The Dog Listener," by Jan Fennel. http://www.yourpurebredpuppy.com/ebooks/TYD.html Hope these help some! |
Thanks Kayc. Both links go to the same page, "Teach Your Dog 100 English Words." Is this right? |
another thing to think about is trying to do something with the dog - learning an activity like agility foundations, or rally work can really help their focus. Clean Run has many agility foundation books and videos and I am sure you can find the same thing with rally - somewhere.
Dan actually started B (the Newf) in an agility foundation class this session to sort of mix it up. anything you do lioke that with the dog will work for team building |
Opps.
This should be the link to Jan Fennell: http://www.janfennellthedoglistener.com/ Sorry |
Here's a link to the Pet Video Library, featuring Shannon Holsteins dog training videos.
http://www.petvideolibrary.com/canine_training.php I am fortunate enough to live only 5 minutes away from her training site and have taken Simon through many of her classes, and I have her dog tricks videos. She is a wonderful, positive clicker trainer. When I first rescued Simon, at 3 years old he had no training or socialization and was scared of everything. He is now a completely different dog! Mary |
I will be checking these links out this afternoon, thanks for replying! |
I don't have any books to offer, but recently I was visiting my 10 yr old granddaughter Payton and she was showing me all the tricks she had taught her new Terrier puppy. I was very impressed. Payton told me she was starting to teach Dolly some tricks for Agility. I asked her how she knew how to train Dolly and she told me she watched the lady on Animal Planet. Dolly was very obidient and listen to Payton's commands. So if you have some time, maybe watching the dog training on Animal Planet might help. |
