Then there's the other cat... She came from a home that was so hideous that we were afraid to walk in the door .......and felt bad for the couple. We had no idea where they slept either since the one bed they did have was their daughters. It was no surprise to us that this indoor cat had no idea how to use a litterbox. After re-training her how to use a litterbox, she's been doing great. Best of all, she never throws up! Instead she has taken up a new antic/annoyance. She pees in directly down the drain in our sink. While I think some would that was cool since she never leaves traces of pee "in the sink" and can somehow manage to get it all down the drain perfectly ...it leaves the sink smelling like the ammonia (best way I can describe it). It took us a month to figure out what the horrible smell was!!!!!!!!! Baking soda and all the vinegar in the world didn't get rid of the smell, so we started to lay a small piece of foil in the one sink she uses. Problem solved, she goes in the litterbox again. My question is what the hell is their problem? lol Seriously....... Her litterbox is always clean ...and by always, I'm not trying to lie to myself. Sometimes I clean it twice a day, and it seems like they only pee in it once a day. It's the vomitteer that I'd really like to find a solution for. Mr. J wants to get rid of her, but thankfully he agrees with me when I tell him no one would want her. She only likes me, and unless you give her time... you'd never guess she was friendly. She makes all kids cry (never bites anyone but has a scream that would scare anyone if you try to pass her and defends her house big time if anyone walks in while we're gone). She tolerates the people in her family, but only goes to mommy for love and cuddling. |

Cats are weird in so many ways. Winston pukes if he eats too fast, which only happens if his food bowl is left empty overnight and then he eats too fast when it's refilled. If his bowl always has food in it, no barfing.
Re peeing in the sink, I've never had a cat do that but I've had a few who liked to sleep in the sink. I have also had a couple many years ago when I bred siamese who liked to pee on the stove. Stunk up the whole house when it was turned on and nothing got rid of it except replacing the burners. Yuck. Winston is basically the world's perfect cat. |
BTW, the cat who pees in the sink, is she spayed? |
Yep!
edit: Also wanted to add that I've been thinking about leaving food in the bowl all the time, but once I started to feed the cat 3x a day, ...there's always food in the bowl. In fact, she won't eat what's left in the bowl ...she wants fresh crap each time. I swear she's a diva. |
Cats....sigh..... My Khobi, who passed late last year was a vomitter also. All 16 years of his life. He was very healthy, he just vomitted. We decided, he was balimic. As for the peeing...since cats DO like to be clean, and since she didn't have a litterbox at her last home, maybe she pee'd in the sink there. That would actually be pretty smart, and we know, our cats are smart. I miss my two boys who died last year. A lot. And I know we have Gordie, who is a sweet boy, but he and I just haven't really bonded. He is 100% Tony's cat. |
Oh, don't get me started on cats. I have 3.
Cat #1: Very nice, if skittish, boy. Pees ON me in bed at night. Also started peeing AROUND the litterbox. Also uses the litterbox, and always poops in it. Also chews electrical cords and chews holes in my sweaters. Cat #2: Turns on my clock radio at night and tries to turn off the baby monitor by my bedside. Hates the other 2 cats and will fight them if I am petting them and not her. Cat #3: Sleeps on my pillow at night and licks, then munches on my hair. I've taken to wearing a hooded sweatshirt with the hood on at night. |

our cat is too lazy to find her way to the window side of the curtain in the living room to look outside, so has instead ruined the blinds in our apartment (it's superglue or the deposit...ick) by climbing THROUGH them and just sitting there watching from our bedroom window.
She purrs when she's running from our son (you'd think she hates him...but she's purring so I don't get it) but won't purr if you randomly start to pet her. Talk about aloof and backwards. Ours puked up hairballs and random bile as well until we started feeding her the Blue Buffalo indoor cat stuff and Sheba in the evenings. Haven't had a prob for a couple months now. I'm sure they all do it for different reasons, but still. Old friend's cat ate any jewelry it could find. wtf!? Because of her I fear for my wedding ring should I ever take it off, even though ours has never cared about jewelry! |

Maybe a different brand would be worth a shot. She threw up more on pro plan which I thought was the food because it always increased once she was given it, so I switched them on iams and always saw a decrease (the only 2 brands i've ever tried because .........they're just cats). The vomit cat always ruins blinds too, so we just leave them about 3" up (all of them). It's enough of a gap for her to move them w/o ruining or biting them, and seems to work for us. Thankfully they haven't realized there are windows to look at upstairs because they are high, so we don't have to leave them pulled up a tad. The vet did think feeding 3x a day would help, and I think it did for the reason you stated (stomach empty too long). ...but it was just his/our guess since he said cats can be finicky. barns, I can't believe you wear a hooded sweater to sleep sometimes. The pee'er would occasionally eat my hair (not anymore), but I liked how it felt. |
No cats in my house...just feeling the need to comment that this thread is cracking me up...and grossing me out!!! |
No barf or pee issues... but I have a doozie too.
I have four cats. The only really gross issue I have is with Ampersand. We got him from our vet after he had been attacked by a boxer. He was a stray kitten all of 6 weeks old when the boxer caught sight of him, grabbed him by the tail and shook real hard. This lead to a tail amputation and nerve damage in his rear. He has a gastrointestinal problem. He gets a real hard build up of food in his gut. In most cats, this would cause vomiting; in him, it causes 'gummy butt'. He has an oozy, diahrrea at his butt. So sometimes, I have to wash countertops, tablecloths, and bed covers routinely. The worst was on day, my guy and I both were 'slimed' when we picked him up to give him a nuzzle. It was so gross! |
Lol, some of these stories make me smile with a grossed out expression on my face. Velvet will occasionally puke, has had a couple of UTIs and by far her worse problem is the fact that she is a persian with a lot of hair, and poo will get stuck to her rear if I don't trim regularly. It will fall off at random spots throughout the house, usually right around the time company gets here. Talk about embarassing.... |
I always thought my cat was special....little did I know he was darn near perfect compared to these cats!!! OMG - horrid!
He sleeps with anyone - moves around from bed to bed at night. He asks to be let out just like a dog. He eats his food dry and never pukes. He purrs when he should. He even goes on walks with me down the road.....I LOVE Tipup the catdog! Here is his latest - catching a baby gopher. He is a super mouser too - good thing on a farm. He kills them and leaves them as trophies on the sidewalk. |
Lots of feline dietary research, for my son's prediabetic cat, resulted in some major food changes for our cats.
We now feed wet, with a higher protein content (note: this is not appropriate for cats with renal disease). We do put out a bit of dry, but only as a treat, and it is one with a lower carb/higher protein. Some people refer to dry cat food as "kitty crack" due to the high carb content. We don't have any vomiting with smaller, more frequent meals. Our cats aren't starving at meal times. My son's cat has maintained her blood sugar in the normal range for 2 years. For our long haired cats, hairballs can be a way of life. We use the cat treats with hairball control. From cat sites: The number one reason for litterbox issues is a urinary tract infection. Chronic ones are harder to get rid of, but it can make a major improvement in your life. Litterbox issues a a sign it is time for a vet check. My cats are very boring, except when Zoey stalks Ben or Scallywag. Ben outweighs Zoey by 90 lbs and is terrified of her. Zoey will lie in wait for Scally to walk by and the chase is on. Scally won't leave the dog's room when she is around - just sits and looks pathetic. |
Lee's cat is a puker. Drives us crazy. Jasper was getting to the point of puking everyday. I think he does it when he is feeling spiteful (there are many stories behind why we feel this way ). I brought him to the vet and they gave me a wormer and some meds for the puking. I tried the wormer first (just cause it was the easiest to give) but didn't think that it would work. He is an inside cat so how is he gonna get worms right? Yeah that basically cleared up the puking so it wasn't every day. Now its just back to his normal puking.
But we have never tired the other medicine, don't ask me why as we have it at the house. It's called Metoclopramide. You are supposed to give it once a day for for five days, then every other day for 5 days, then as needed for vomiting. |
Boy oh boy to I feel your pain. My 14 yr old cat Pearl has caused me so much stress on waking in the morning and never knowing what I would find, puke, poo, or pee. Through the years the vomiting would be once a week...she never could handle the feed that supposed to take care of "hairballs." Since we moved to this new house she got worse with all of her bodily functions...she would do her business right next to the litter box ect. I finally had to start closing her in the laundry room at night so I could keep her accidents contained.
One of the problems I figured out was she was sneaking and eating some of China's left over food...so now all dog left over dog food is put up where she can't get it. I also found out people where feeding her people food...she is now allowed only HER food. She only eats the cat food out of a can now and it has been a few weeks since we've had either problem with her. Her stools are hard and no vomit and she is making it to the litter box to pee. I thought for a while that she was getting dementia, but the new rules for Pearl seem to be working. Of course she does miss the extra food because she is an eater, but I don't miss the extra mess. |
After reading all of these posts I can only say "I love my Romeo more than ever!" He is friends with the dogs, doesn't even use a litterbox but goes to the door to be let, loves to snuggle when it's cold, and eats whatever we feed him. I've recently been thinking of getting another cat, but am reconsidering now:) |
We have two wonderful Persian Cats. They tolerate the dogs--use their litterbox--and they don't throw-up! Love my kitties too! After we lost our PJ 18 months ago--it took two to replace him!!
I found this incredible breeder and have learned so much about "Kitty Health" from her. These two are special!! TUCKER FLETCHER |
Tucker and Fletcher are so cute!!!! |
Tucker and Fletcher are the cutest cats I've ever seen!!! I love their hair do's!
Well, Mr. J forgot to put the foil in the sink after brushing the other day, and in just 2 hrs ...the peer found the sink and pissed in it again. I really have no idea how this cat accomplishes this w/o getting pee everywhere, and her tummy still smells like the shampoo I used a few weeks ago (bathed just cause I do, not b/c of any pee issue). It's amazing that she doesn't go in any other sink either. The two other bathrooms are always left open. |
LOL Fletcher looks like a small chow. Cute |
Put a liter bottle filled with water in the sink at night. They use them to scare cats away from areas at night. I doubt she will pee on that either. |
I love Fletcher! So cute! |
Thanks for your compliments for Tuck and Fletch!! They are sweethearts--Fletcher does look like a 'chow'--he has the most unusual coat for a kitty. We just try to keep him cut short otherwise he almost looks like a sheepdog!! |

Ditto! Our one foray into catdome with the orphaned kitties was enough. The garage stunk for a year...some didn't like the litter box. Friend's 19 year old cat has been a vomiter all her life. Age, no teeth, etc now requires feeding ever few hours with 1 spoonful Trader Joe's catfood. What isn't eaten must be thrown away. And more than likely some is coming back up during the night. But then I've got the vomiting sheepdog..........at least she doesn't pee in the sink. |
