puppy loose stools

One of our eight week old puppies has had loose stools and/or diarrhea since he was flown to us. His stool has been cultured and they can't find anything. Thought it might be stress. Gave him some medicine and said to put him on rice and chicken. It finally got better and then started up again...maybe too soon back on regular diet? One of our earlier sheepdogs spent his whole life on WD Science diet. Any suggestions?

Could it be different water? Perhaps try giving cooled boiled water instead of tap. I should go back to the chicken and rice as well with just a little ordinary food. Keep a close eye as they can dehydrate so quickly. Please keep us posted, sure it is just teething troubles...x
Is the breeder providing advice?

If not, ask your vet if Panacur would do any harm... I think you give it for 3 consecutive days?? It cleared up recurrent diarrhea in our pack years ago. We had given Metronidazol and an Imodium type product but it only cleared it up temporarily. The Panacur ended the cycle for my dogs but it depends on what's causing this in your puppy.

You also have to make sure you have good sanitation practices... as soon as it hits the ground, clean it up. For grassy areas, you might pour hot water over the area or cover it with sand.
Nelson has always had loose stools when he first came to us at 4 months. Even after trying multiple different brands of large breed puppy food. Chicken and rice, panacur, etc....Now we add 2 tablespoons of canned pumpkin or some grated carrots to his food (wellness lg breed puppy). He has been fine for 6 months. Maybe some need more fiber in their diet.

good luck!
Contact the breeder for advice, yes sometimes stress of leaving the nest and going to a new enviroment can cause loose stools.

I would give bottled or boiled cooled down water if the pup came to you from a different area to the water supply he is getting now. Transition slowly over to the new source of water till they get use to it if from another area you got the pup from. Change in water from one area to another can cause upset in the tummy.

Go back to just chicken and rice for a few days, keep the pup on that and if the stools are looking OK then just add a bit of kibble bit by bit over a good week or so till back on the pups normal diet.

Dont rush getting the pup back to whatever kibble you are feeding it, take it slowly and as you increase the amount keep an eye on how the stool is, if loosening up again cut back on the kibble & go back to square one. Can take a good fortnight till transitioning back to what the pup was having when it arrived.

Have to ask too, are you feeding the same that the breeder fed in kibble when the pup arrived? If not then that can cause an upset in the tummy too.
Asterisk is a year old and still gets on-again-off-again runny stools. With her, I know it's because she's been getting into something she shouldn't have. More than once I have gone to the backyard to clean up stuff animal eyeballs and limbs staring at me from her stool.
