Nails - Grinding vs. Clipping

Wendel's nails are killing me! (Okay, maybe not killing me, but I'm getting fairly bruised and cut). His previous owner used to grind his nails. I have always had Asterisk's nails clipped.

I've always been a bit curious about the grinding method. Do you have any opinions on which method you prefer?

Definitely grind the nails, especially since he's already accustomed to it. With a nail clipper you still end up with sharp edges that usually have to be filed or worn down on pavement with time.

If you're looking for a nail grinder, don't buy a "PediPaws" or similar tool advertised on TV. You'll be wasting your money. They just don't have the power to grind the nails of an OES. The higher priced Dremels have the power required to do the job.

There's a PediPaws attachment that fits the Dremel tool. http://www.oes.org/page2/21797~Peticure ... -paws.html
Definitely grind them down. The dogs don't mind it at all & they end up way smoother & no change of bleeding.
I grind - they are still picky about letting me handle their feet - I suspect that will never end with these two, but I keep the grinder accessible and do a few at a time at night. So much easier than clipping.
I really like the Peticure attachment that you put on a Dremel.
I've used it for about a year. It covers the sanding drum so it helps
some to keep hair away from it and it catches a lot of the nail dust
you'd otherwise end up breathing or having to sweep/vacuum up.
