Sad news especially after hearing Farrah lost her long battle with cancer last night.. |
|
www.cnn.com and www.msnbc.com are just reporting that he was rushed to the hospital in cardiac arrest. Due to privacy laws, no further info was released.
It may be that they were abe to revive him or they are attempting to notify family before releasing more info. So sad. Update - now they are saying they revived him and family is enroute to the hospital |
Confirmation just through to the morning news room, Michael has passed away. UCLA medical centre just said never regained a pulse. |
Wow, 2 mega pop icons in one day. Both having rather tragic lives too... |
Only 50 years old, too.

I am so shocked by this. No matter how strange this man was, he was an incredible talent. I hope he finds peace. And...I thank him for all of his wonderful music. It's been a very tough day. |
Incredible talent--sad life--
Thoughts for his family. |
I'm really upset, I always felt so sorry for him. He was a genius. |

I mentioned in the other thread how much I love his music!! Quite frankly,I'd rather have around the coverage of him than Farrah. |
Just... wow.... |
its going to be a circus for a loong time, i think.....who is going to be the guardians for the kids??? i think there will be a fight over them, just for the fact that im sure a lot of money is involved.......

poor kids..... I just heard on the radio, he died $500 mil in debt. The tour was planning on starting in July was only going to pay $10 mil. A drop in the bucket. |

I assume that was the corporate MJ, I also assume the kids have trusts, and I wish the TV had something else on!! |
I just don't understand how an individual can be $500 (I heard $400, like it matters) MILLION in debt. HOW?
Who knows, I wouldn't be surprised if the kids didn't have trusts... |
I think that he owns The Beatles catalog, doesn't he?
I assume this will mean that someone else will become the owner of it, and will start promoting and republishing the songs like crazy. |

Paul McCartney does have the rights to the beatles songs back.
Heard with the UK tour he was advanced 12 million and production costs so far are 40 million and they have sold 100 million dollars in tickets. Wonder what is going to happen there? Lots of people overseas have booked there tickets for the UK concerts so even if a refund on them does not cover those that booked accomodation, flights etc. Reports here was he was 497 million in debt. |
He does own the Beatles Song Book--I heard a reporter today interviewing his attorney and the attorney said that purchasing the Beatles Song book was one of the last good decisions that he made. Don't know what year he bought it. |
I am under the impression that The Beatles catalog was heavily mortgaged to pay off his debts to Sony. If he left it to Paul McCartney, then it is back where it should be. |
I don't think you can just leave something of value to someone in your will if you have debts that exceed your assets. I wouldn't bet a body part on it, but I'd guess the executor of his estate would have to liquidate everything to attempt to settle the estate's debt first.
I guess it's possible or even likely that the songs had some sort of priority ownership, like a mortgage or a lien, or maybe that he had only a sort of lifetime interest in the songs and/or some covenant that required ownership to go revert to someone else on his death. Time will tell. We'll just have to keep on living to see how it turns out. |
