Puppy chewing/eating potty pads

 My booger bear is chewing up his potty pads into tiny little pieces and eating some of it. When I am at work I have to leave him in the kitchen with the potty pads but am now afraid to because I don't want him to choke. Last week he got really sick and had blood in his diareha and I took him to the vet and she said that he must have eaten something that his stomach didn't like. I watch him at all times when I get home and couldn't think of what it could be that he ate. Now I am wondering if it was the potty pads that made him so sick. Does anyone have any suggestions? If I can't leave the potty pads or newspaper down, what should I put down for him to potty on while I am gone? Can the pads hurt him???? I come home at lunch everyday so he is alone for about 4-5 hours at a time. Should I put him in his crate while I am at work to help the potty training along as well???

Definately start crate training as soon as possible. My Pooh Bear also did the shreading thing...it's a bit of separation anxiety. We never did have nay luck with the wee wee pads so we bought very cheap towels. As soon as he was in the crate, he learned that he didn't want to go on the towel because he liked to sleep on them.
Welcome to the forum :)
I would suggest a new vet, or a more thorough check up. Bloody diarreah is not usually caused by eating some soft plastic and paper. Not that it's good for them, but it shouldn't cause that kind of reaction. I would suggest the pup be thoroughly tested for worms, coccidia, and giardia. Those are the first things that come to mind, and it can be quite urgent even if the pup seems ok right now, it can escalate so fast.
I hope everything works out! Please keep us updated, and pics are always good! :)
My puppy is also chewing potty pads and newspaper both. Both my husband and I are gone all day wand would prefer not to crate the dogs. We have 2 puppies about 13 weeks old. Is there anything that we can safely put on the paper that will deter them from chewing, but not deter them from going to the bathroom on the papers?
