I have two 2 year old OES's one male, one female, that we adopted about 6 weeks ago. They have adapted very well to crate training and spend a lot of time there. The male has recently started to bark a lot especially at night/early morning. I tried ignoring it for a while but was greeted by a large puddle next to his crate the two times I did. ( I corrected this by covering his crate.)I usually let them outside for a few minutes to relieve themselves then back to the crates. Sometimes this works, sometimes it doesnt. This week he has started to bark more in the evening after walks. Does he just want more comany or is there something I can do to correct this? The femal is very uiet and rarely bars at all. He is the Alpha dog by the way. |

I had my dog from 8 weeks to 13 years and he didn't bark like that until the last few years.... we would pet him and then he would bark for more petting and it scared people they didn't know why he was barking. You mentioned they were 2 years old... and it sounds like the spend a lot of time in their crates.. I only used a crate for house breaking and when I can't be home. Then the dog didn't need the crate after he got older around a year old. Sheepies have lots of energy and they loved to be loved you might try lots and lots of affection and less time in the crate. |
