I work from home- work is a concept Bally clearly struggles with -and am constantly being puppy-dog-eyed into leaving the computer and playing with my boy. The problem is that, much as I would like to, I can't keep taking all these breaks! So does anyone have any games that he can play by himself? He's finally developed an interest in his Kong, but he's going to be a big fatty if I keep relying on that one. Bones and long lasting treats aren't great either because it's raining most of the time and he'll insist on burying them. I feel like giving him a Gameboy... |

Can you teach posting at oes.org?
I could set up a forum just for jibber jabber between bored pups! Quote: What did one pup say to the other?

Both great ideas if Bally didn't love chewing up all things technological |
You'll probably hate me for this, but other than the non-existent doggy-gameboy, the only other sure-fire entertainment system I can suggest is...another dog |

I work from home too and when we got Baley I found the same to be true! He loved my office but definitely wanted my attention especially when I was on the phone which is OFTEN! (reminded me of my children when they were young). I found that I was giving in a LOT and was playing with him and probably making the problem worse--soooo we got Baxter... and that really did help a lot. They both really love being in the office with me but most of the time they are content and do occupy each other. Baxter did figure out that if I get up out of my chair for any reason that if he JUMPS into it--that will delay my going back to work for a bit! |
What about his own TV with a DVD Dont laugh they have ones for kittys of Fish swimming across the screen
So why not one for a bored OES, lets see , birds flying, sheep running in the paddock and Kittys to keep the kids amused. Along with a barking sound track. |
Get a cat, Tiggy loves chasing, catching and licking my cat.
Cant say the cat is a big fan, but hey whatever works. |
Actually Bally would prefer Monkeys on his DVD  He's never been interested in what's on TV before, but just last night he watched a whole show on Howler Monkeys.
As for a second dog, trust me when I say I've already tried that track with my fiance but he just won't play along Good news is that I'm moving Back to Sydney soon which means we'll be closer to Bally's best friend Louie, so maybe I'll just borrow him off mum every so often |
Tune to Nat Geo Wild let him watch the dog whisperer |

Along with a barking sound track. well we have a bird sitting dvd for when the macaw is a little bored. The same company does make a dog sitting one Don't worry about the Kong - put part of his daily food ration in it, no extra weight and occupied puppy! If you freeze it it takes longer too |
I tried the other dog trick with Asterisk. It didn't work. Wendel would rather snuggle with me than play with her. She tries to wrestle with him, she nuzzles his ears and his face and he just sits there. She's always barking to get attention.
You'd think he was an old man! He's only 3! |

You'd think he was an old man! He's only 3! Give Wendel some time. That behavior is totally normal for a new dog. Some of our fosters/new adopted ones play right away, but most have to settle in before they start being ready to play with the resident dogs. This can be weeks or even months - depending on the dog. |

Do you give him plenty of exercise before you start your work day? If Maggie has an hour or two of exercise to start the day, she is pretty happy to spend the rest of the day resting while I work. I always take her out for another long outing in the late afternoon/ evening which keeps her happy through dinner time. But she was getting bored at night so that explains Henry. |
