About three years ago (before we got Chelsea- right after David Bloom died and Lester Holt started taking over for him on the TODAY Show- weekends) My husband and I were languishing in bed on a weekend morn (obviously no bobtail in our life at that time!) and to my surprise I heard Lester Holt, the NBC anchor, who used to be on NBC here in Chicago, mention, during a dog related segment, that he was only familiar with "sheepdogs". I assumed he meant the OES, but never had confirmation until tonight, he co-hosted the Westminster Dog Show and when the OES came out he was gushing about his dog 'Rupert' and said it was his third OES. He also mentioned that you have to like 'brushing'. Maybe this was covered in an earlier post, but I just had to put in my two cents, I've always liked Lester, even when he was just the Chicago guy. Now I am a fan. Any man who can juggle a high profile career, a family, living in NewYork, and THREE OES (granted not all at once!), well he's got my admiration. Aside from Paul McCartney, who are other celebs/personalities who have been owned by an OES? Just curious. Up. P.s. Who was that OES at Westminster, apparently from Chicago? Beautiful dog, but then again they all were. Makes you want one of each and at least seven OES. (I've always dreamed of a 'fleet' of OES ) P.P.S. And while we are on the subject of television, how about that Melissa Etheridge? Not a big fan of the music, it's alright, but **WOW**, she really outdid herself at the Grammies, hope she can remain cancer free. |

Betty White was an avid backer of OES. She's pictured in a few sheepdog books.
I thought the same thing about Lester when I heard that! He's moving up on my list of fav news anchors! |
You think he's on this board? Umm....Ron? |
The bitch who won best of breed and appeared in the herding group was Lambluv's Desdemona (I beleive her call name is "Desi"), she was being shown by her breeder. Which is really exciting, as most of the time dogs get shown by professional handlers (such as the gal who handled Carlee, that gorgeous german shorthaired pointer that won best of show), not by the people who actually are breeding them.
Desi also won Best of Breed AND Best of Group at nationals a little while ago! Karen |

Jere (Lambluv Kennel) is located in dowtown Chicago. I posted this in a previous thread, but would be eye-opening to see her and her clan bouncing down Michigan Ave. |
An exchange with Lester and the co-host last night about Lester "thinking about" showing his Rupert had the co-host mention the fact that Lester has cut the hair around Rupert's eyes.
Lester's response; "we do that so he doesn't walk into parked cars". |
Too funny! I missed that! Up. |
UP! My in-law, sorta! Yes, I, too, have always thought highly about Lester, even in his Chicago days. When he mentioned his past with sheepies, I didn't realize it was him talking...he was a voice over at that point. I'm delighted he was the one with sheepdogs! Howz our darlin' sister? Deborah and Pirate (who sends a kiss to Chelsea) |
Hi Deb and Pirate!
The sort-of-in-laws are all well. Chelsea is particularly well. She is settling into the routine and has become quite the good girl. Still not hip to the grooming portion of her life, but we are dealing. She watched the Westminster dog show with us and rushed the t.v. barking every time she saw a dark colored dog on the screen (I think she could see the contrast and recognized the form as canine). So we had two wild nights of watching the show, both the one on the t.v. and the one in the family room. There was much harumphing and pacing when those t.v. dogs didn't seem fazed by her barking. Hope you are all well and enjoying the frigid winter, Chelsea sends wet nose and kisses to Pirate too! Up. |
