I'm very sorry to hear about Beau.
I can provide some information about wheelchairs though. Our last sheepie, Shakespeare, developed osteosarcoma and had to have his back leg amputated. After checking out a number of sources, we ended up contacting Eddies Wheels and getting a cart from them. We weren't sure at the time if it would help but were willing to give it a try. Well....Shakespeare quickly got used to the cart and even treed a squirrel while in the cart! We did have to help Shakespeare go up the stairs in his cart, but he quickly figured out how to go down the stairs without our help. From what I understand, the folks at Eddie's Wheels make carts for front leg and back leg amputees. Their website is at http://www.eddieswheels.com/ Good luck. I'm very sorry to hear about Beau. My Liz had Osteoscarcoma and had to have her rear leg amputated. THis happened about 8 years ago. She was always a fast runner but she could still run like the wind (and enjoyed it) with 3 legs!
We moved from NY to CA shortly after the surgery and drove across the country in 2 cars with my 2 OES. Well, everytime we stopped at a rest area to let the girls run around a bit people would come over after seeing the 2 of them. It took most people a beat or 2 before they realized that Liz was running around on 3 legs! I think that she thought that the whole trip was orchestrated for her to make new friends. Their spirit is unstoppable. Good luck with Beau. Lorraine |
Thanks for the info. I went to EddiesWheels and left feeling a little more encouraged. I guess we cross each bridge when we get to it. |
