I'm not a baby anymore Mum!!!!!

This really made me laugh :)

For the last 10 months since we've had Casey, he has never been able to go down stairs. He isn't allowed up on our second floor so it hasn't been a big issue. Recently I finally coaxed him down the stairs into the basement...this was huge for him! He was so proud of himself, you could tell.

So now occasionally he sneaks upstairs and I always carry him back down since he's kind of awkward and I'm worried he will scratch the hardwood on his way down.

So today I went to the basement and sure enough he followed me down....with that fresh in his memory he snuck up the hardwood stairs but only got as far as the landing before I heard him. I walked up, picked him up and carried him back down the steps.

Not 20 seconds later, he went straight back up the stairs and gave little growl. I was worried he was getting a little dominant and trying to lay claim to the upstairs of the house but then... as I walked to go get him, he turned, put his head high in the air (as if to make a point) and proceeded to walk down the stairs. I will never forget that moment, it seemed to be so blatantly: "See! I'm not a baby. You don't have to carry me!"

He will be two on Sunday, I'm very proud of my baby-boy.

AWWWwww!!!! :aww: :aww: :aww: ....

It's sooo sweet, yet sooo sad when they do things like this......

Heart was the same way with the downstairs steps..She would never go down them even if the other 2 barreled down after my hubby...then one day...she FLEW down the steps...It took my breath away because I thought maybe she had tripped...but I think it was her way of 'getting it over with!!!"  :D :D ..Now she goes up and down like a pro!!!!
LOL Silly Casey.... is Sky teaching him bad habits?
only that gentle graceful dogs get sent down the stairs of their own accord and gangly adolescents get carried down the stairs :P ...
Cute story.
They are such kids. :aww:

Hey you told me Sky was such a good girl and I've been waiting for Dutch to follow in her aunties footsteps

Way to go Casey
I'm glad he can do it himself now, how on earth did you not hurt yourself carrying a full grown sheepie down the stairs??

I remember when Bally learnt stairs at my parents place... he still has to show us how clever he is every time we're there
When we were on vacation at a friend's cottage, they were fixing the stairs so there were makeshift stairs in place and it was all barely safe for people let alone dogs.

We tried to get the dogs to sleep in the downstairs bedroom but they weren't having anything to do with it. Every night, my husband would carry both sheepies (one at a time) up the stairs, and then down the following morning so they could sleep with us. Is there anything handsomer then a man lovingly carrying a sheepie?

Sky is a very good girl... she lives with Casey now so I'm thinking she'd be teaching him how to get away with counter surfing etc, but be sneaky about it and give those innocent "Honest, I didn't do it" looks that make you melt :)

Casey if Dutch is as much alike in temperment as looks with her auntie Sky you have a wonderful girl
and Dutch inherited that trait of counter surfing altho she isn't sneaky she grabs then dares you to catch her but other than that she is a good girl with a wonderful temperment
LOL That sounds more like Casey...Sky stole a steak off the counter and when we ran to her to scold, she spat it out and scooted away to the side. She then looked incredibly sorry that she'd caused us to raise our voices.

And then 5 minutes later was on the counter trying to get dessert. That kind of thing really erodes the sincerity of the previous sentiment :P BUT! in her defense...she hasn't been on the counter in weeks...I think she was just trying out some different etiquette:" Not acceptable here either, eh? Fiiiiiiiiiine"
I love it when the conquer their fears and complete a new task! He has every right to hold his head high.
