Jaspers story
Mikayla has wanted a small pocket dog for a few years ( she is not in love with sheepies as much as me ) and I told her on her 13th birthday she could get one but she would have to pay for it. So she looked through ads in the newspaper and we checked on Craigslist. She wanted a small dog no more than 15 lbs and around a year old ( she didn't want to have to housebreak it ) which I thought was pretty mature for her. She found a few ads and we started calling and looking. We looked at a female pom and she was cute but she really barked alot and did not like Holly at all! So she saw an add for a pekingnese boy 1 yr old so she begged me to call. I called and the woman said she was in a car accident in April and was in a wheelchair and could not get around very well so she needed to find this little guy a good home. She said he was microchipped, uptd on shots, had akc papers and he was just a little pistol. So I agreed to come and see him.... she said she was staying at her grandmothers house b/c it was one story not like her home and it was easier to manuever a chair in, she said her grandmother did not want any strangers coming to the house to look at this dog which I can understand in this day and age. So I agreed to meet her at a CVS parking lot which I thought was smart for me and my daughters sake as well. So we got to the public place and waited and along came this woman ( who was the womans sister ) with this pathetic ,wet , skinny dog. He had the biggest brown eyes and was so sweet and my daughter fell for him immediatly! She was like mom I can make him into Wonder Dog!! I said are you sure you want him? He smelled of urine he was matted with clumps of hair missing from where someone cut out a mat. She thought he was precious so I asked the woman how much she said make an offer I said well this is for my daughter and she is using her OWN money and all she has is $100 the woman was like my sister paid almost $1000 for him I can't let him go for $100 she will kill me, he has papers and shot records and I looked at my daughter and said sorry that is all we have sorry to waste your time. The woman said fine just take him but I can't give you the papers I said no problem I want to get him neutered anyways! So away we went with Jasper with the window rolled down b/c he stunk so bad!! I made an appt with my vet but could not get appt til last nite so we kept him seperated from Holly and my springer Bear. Well last night I had to put poor Jasper to sleep! The vet said he was around 7 yrs old!! He was NOT microchipped!! And here is the best part...... He had congestive Heart!!!!!! The vet said he wouldn't make it too much longer he was pretty severe!! Poor Jasper! So I said my good byes to the sweet boy and he crossed over............ Now I had to go home with his leash and collar and tell his 13 yr old owner that he had passed!  I was so distraught me and my daughter had been thru so much in the past year ... with our house fire and losing all of our belongings and trying to find a new place then this........ We had had him for around 4 1/2 weeks.........

| I am very sorry for you and your daughter - but now that she seems to know what kind of dog she wants you should contact the rescue groups and see if you can get her one that way - or go to a shelter and see if you can get on a list if they don't have the kind of dog she wants now. |
Oh wow... that's terrible. I'm sorry you went through that and have to tell you dear daughter about her new dog and loss of money. 
That's terrible people would do something like that. |
| Some people are just soooo evil. Although - maybe she thought your story of the dog being for your daughter and only having $100 was a scam too
Poor Jasper and your poor daughter. 
Luckily Jasper got a better life for the last month of his life compared to the one he had. |
| I'm sorry you've found signs of a puppy miller or byb: giant sob story, not allowing you to come to the home, horrible condition of the dog, etc.
People wonder why these puppy mills are so evil.........here's an example. Uncaring people who abuse the animals and lie! You realize those few hours may have been the only love the poor boy received. I'm sorry this happened to you. |

| That is just awful but I am so glad he had a good few weeks with you and your daughter. Next time maybe don't bring your daughter until you have checked out the dog because kids always fall in love with rescue sob stories. I agree that going through rescue or a shelter is more reliable. |

I feel so sad that your daughter has learnt that some people will lie and cheat at only 13 years and over something so heart wrenching. I hope that you can find her a furbaby soon.  |

| Have you tried calling her to tell her what your vet said, and that you could bring her the papers, but you want your money back? I scanned over what you wrote and didn't see you mention it, but I could have missed it. |

| I'd let it go. Fraudulent advertisement aside, you saw the "puppy" before you negotiated the price or bought the dog.
I'd also get a dog from a "reputable" shelter for your daughter! |

The ad that she posted had 2 other small dogs listed , a female pom and a male llaso apso...... did those people that bought them get taken too?? Will she do this again?? |

I'm so sorry this happened to you and your daughter. The grief must be incredible considering the circumstances how this all evolved. One ray of light that comes about out of this story, however, is Jasper. This little dog must have felt truly loved and cared about for the first time in his seven years. I hope your daughter and yourself find solace in that. Jasper deserved the life he always meant to have and he got the chance in the last 4 1/2 weeks of his life. Without you both he would have never experienced it and you were his angels. You and your daughter made such a difference in his life that it is without question he passed knowing the touch of loving hands. I hope that brings some comfort to your daughter. I'm sorry for the loss of Jasper and may the lil fellow be now romping pain free at the bridge. Marianne |

Will she do it again? Most likely. As much as you think you might get thru to her & make her realize what she did was wrong, you are probably just going to frustrate yourself. This type of person really turns a deaf ear to this stuff. All they are looking at is making a buck. |
Since you found Jasper on Craig's List, would it perhaps help to post your story there too? Ive notice some people who have been scammed on our local CL have done that. It probably wouldnt stop her in the long run, since all she has to do is post her next one under a different name, but...it might give folks in your area a little note to be cautious...  |
| I am so sorry about the pup, and your daughter and the loss of her monies.
But I have one word of caution and that is "carigs list" PERIOD! I will never go to the site anymore, for any reason. And i won't refer anyone to ever look there. That is where the animal rights idiot that wormed her way into my house came from. I have heard of more scam artists on this list for one thing or another.............. I hope you can help your daughter find another pup. |
