I am new here. November was a year since I lost my OES Fred. We unfortunately had to put him down because he was very ill and could not walk anymore. he was a great dog, we had him for almost 12 years. We rescued him from a vets office, the previous owner tied him up in the yard and he had tar all over his fur so the vet shaved him down and he had also eaten anti-freeze and almost was poisoned to death. The vet got him back to health and cleaned him up and we came in looking for a dog and the rest is history. I am planning on getting another OES by June (When my house guest moves out). Some of the prices I have seen have been pretty high. I am willing to take another rescued OES, but have not been lucky enough to find them in New York. I feel that we would rather have a male as that is what we are used to. If anyone knows any OES in the New York Area, please let me know. Thanks. Fran |

Hi Fran! I'm so sorry to hear about the loss of your boy Fred. He sounds like a true friend! Have you contacted New England Old English Sheeopdog Rescue? (neoesr for short). I know that they often have dogs available from all over the country. There is a link to their website on the front page of the site! There's also some other rescue organization links in that area too. Good luck with your search for a new friend!

Fran,
Pups are quite expensive and lots of work to raise. I my self have the pleasure of three adopted Sheepies. My oldest is Tyler who I adopted nearly 8 years ago, he will soon be 12 years old. I would contact NEOESR and other rescues around the country. Texas has two and I know that they will adopted out of Texas and I believe have dogs available. I find that rescue is so rewarding. My relationship with Tyler is one of the most rewarding experiences of my life and understand how you must miss your Fred. I wish you good luck and I would continue with rescue. You can get all ages of dogs thru rescue. |
Hi Karen,
Yes i have been in touch with them before, I believe I contacted them soon after Fred died, but i found I was not ready to get another then. I will give them a try again. Thanks alot. Fran |
Welcome Fran!
Now would be a good time to start the process with NEOESR, as it can take some time for the Placement Director to find the perfect match for you! She really works hard to find the right place for the right dog -- and it's done with the dog's interests first -- so that they won't have to be uprooted again, and of course, they don't come back into rescue! She has matched us up twice... the first time took 6 months, the second time was only about a month or two... and Joan (my better half) is on the Board of Directors! No special treatment! Again, welcome and good luck! -Ron. PS You can get the process started at http://www.neoesr.org/ You can go directly to the online adoption form, but I think it might be better to wander around that site for a bit first! Then if you can't find the link to the online adoption form (I think you will! It's easy to spot) here's the link: http://www.neoesr.org/adoptionform/ |
I'm sorry to hear about your loss! I would encourage rescue as the way to go as well. There are often OES in NY that come through NEOESR - in fact - there's one in the program being adopted right now!
You can fill out an application online - and email the placement director, Grannie Annie. Good LUck - and welcome to the forum! Kristen |
