Shaving Holly

Well I think I am going to have to shave Holly  I really don't want to but that puppy fluff I thought I was done with is NOT done and I can not keep up with the mats  I think I am brushing her all the way thru and then the next day a mat pops up.......... I think I should just wait til her adult coat comes in ...... do you all agree??

Hard decision...as I have just gone through this with Heart ...not so much because of matts, but due to the heat. I can sympathize with the puppy coat and matting!!!! Heart still has her cottony puppy coat and it is very hard to keep up with!!! I generally brush her 4 times a weeks with an every day discovery of a new matt, generally under her arms, around her neck or on her belly...

Now that she has had a radical trim, I have had to brush her only 2 times since last Thursday!!!! Whoo!!HOO>...Pearl is the next o :D ne to get 'the summer trim'..then I'll have so much free time!!!

sooo.If you really feel that the matts are overcoming your work, it may be best to start fresh..and get her shaved. IMHO!!!!!!
Nothing wrong with a little summer cut!! 8)
I am sure she will feel like a new girl!
Please tell me that this fluff undercoat wont last forever PLEASE!! I have holly's belly shaved and her armpits and no one ever really notices but her Q tip head is starting to get matts and under her neck .....

I love her nice and full but I have to admit I can not keep up!

Heart looks WONDERFUL how do I find an OES groomer in my area? I have a girl that does an ok job but I dont think she has much experience with OES but Holly does love her!
I know exactly what you're going through. Asterisk also is matting severely. I am brushing her daily and just can't keep up. She just turned a year old and she has the softest, cotteny coat. I swear, the wind blows and she get's a matt.

When we go for walks, she ends up getting matts at different parts that her harness touches.

I'm thinking about getting The Stuff and seeing if this will help. She is in a puppy cut and her fur is about 2 1/2 inches long now, I'd cry if I have to shave her again!
They will always have their undercoat as far as I am aware? or am I mistaken?
Undercoat? Fluff? What is the difference? Holly does not have that LONG sheepie fur she has FLUFF. Her coat isn't coarse ( is that the right word? )
Her ears have long hair and it is kinda straight but it is not the same as the rest of her body. I wish it was!
Do you keep her collar on her? I stopped putting Asterisk's collar on when we are in the house. She was getting really nasty, thick matts. She only gets it on when we leave the house on a walk.

This may help a bit
no I do not keep a collar on her unless we go to the groomers or out in public I live on 4 acres so she just runs like a mad woman! :yay:

You can strip it out using a Mars Coat King or something similar. You really have to keep up with it though because when it comes back in, those little hairs will want to mat.

Some coats are just softer and mat more than others, too. Clyde has soft fine hair and his undercoat is cottony and junky, kind of a pain to deal with. Owen has a nice harsh coat like an OES is supposed to have and it's so much easier to keep nice, even during the changes he's going through.

Heart looks WONDERFUL how do I find an OES groomer in my area? I had to go searching for my groomer and I have found 2 that I love....One does a great job on washing, and brushing her...getting allthe matts I miss.... ...and the other one is my trimming groomer..she is awesome too!!!! I would ask any sheepieowner in your area and then visit her with Holly..... have a girl that does an ok job but I dont think she has much experience with OES but Holly does love her!
Do you think she will work with you and do only what you tell her to do???? If so, maybe she is a keeper!!!!!
