My dentist (who I trust) said the tooth had a lot of work and temporary crowns aren't as form fitting as permanents so she isn't concerned. Does it seem normal that the area is still sensitive? I'm convinced I need a root canal but the dentist says no. Fortunately ibufprofen helps but I don't want to take that 3 times a day until I get the permanent crown (on July 6). Am I whining?????? |

I don't think it's normal, but I'm not a dentist.
Perhaps you should seek out another opinion (from a dentist!) |
Rinse your mouth out with a salt water solution (1 tsp salt to a qt of water, any temperature) several times a day.
Avoid spicy and hard foods for a week or so. Let the saline solution start soothing your gums. Most commercial mouthwash solutions contain alcohol, which is drying - don't use it right now. Make sure your toothbrush is a soft bristle one, anything else will wear down the enamel and irritate the gums. You could even use a piece of guaze for the irritated area instead of a toothbrush. Take the ibuprofen as directed for a week, while trying the above. See if it doesn't help. If not, talk to the dentist again. |
